Abstract

This research aims to study the writing of scenting and the search for emotional desires in examples of the Saudi novel, according to the semiotics of desires approach. It revolves around answering two questions: How did the desiring formation of narrative discourse appear in the novels after the act of scenting? And how did the dramatic plot appear in the novel's narrative discourse? The research relied on a plan consisting of an introduction that involves the semiotics of desires, then a discussion on the semiotics of scenting, followed by the first topic: the desiring formation of narrative discourse in Saudi novels. In this section, the most prominent formations were the passion of joy, the passion of sadness, the passion of love, and the passion of interest. The second topic focused on the dramatic plot, including the emotional exposure of fictional characters after the act of scenting, their readiness for manifestations of emotion, and the subsequent value judgment on them.
