Abstract

A title constitutes special importance in literary works, including poetry, as it is considered the spearhead from which the recipient starts to uncover the veil of the text and understand its connotations, as it is the focal point in this work, so the title of the poem constitutes an important textual structure in monitoring its aesthetics, so the title invoked the interest of poets to achieve poetry in it since it's considered a text that has its independent existence and its own entity. From here, this study came to theory and practice to answer a number of questions, revolving around the concept of the title in the past and present, and about the importance of the title in modern literary criticism, as well as about the structure of those titles and their connotations in the poetic code that is being studied. These questions were concluded by talking about the functions of a title as determined by modern semiotic studies.
