عن Islamic Architecture

Vision

Preparing a generation of scientifically and practically qualified architects in order to revive the identity of Islamic architecture and compete in the local and international markets.

Overview

The University Council, in its 12th session held on 27 Dhul-Qi`dah 1402 A.H., issued a decision to establish the Department of Engineering at the College of Applied and Engineering Sciences.

When a needs assessment survey was conducted, the feedback revealed that the specialization of the Islamic architecture was missing at Saudi universities as well as other universities, and that the entire Islamic nation needs this specialization to revive our Islamic heritage in the urban environment. Therefore, attention was given to Islamic architecture, and an unparalleled program was developed for this specialization. The university started to implement the Islamic Architecture Program, which was approved by the University Council's decision issued in the fifth session held on 14 Rabi` Al-Awwal 1404 A.H. The university received the first class of students at the beginning of the first semester of the academic year 1403/1404 A.H.

Afterwards, efforts were dedicated to preparing engineering programs in the specializations of civil engineering, electric engineering, computer engineering, and mechanical engineering. This decision was approved by the University Council in its 14th session held on 26 Sha`ban 1404 A.H., and the engineering departments received the first class of students studying engineering programs in the first semester of the academic year 1405/1406 A.H.

As part of the endeavors to develop these programs on an ongoing basis, the University Council, in its 13th session held on 15 Sha`ban 1404 A.H., gave instructions to establish a separate college for engineering and Islamic architecture. The college was established in 1409 A.H. with four departments.
