Events and Field Activities

This refers to all events and field activities held outside Umm Al-Qura University that include the participation of academic staff and students, under the umbrella of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, and through which awareness-raising materials are spread that target a broad range of society members.

It includes awareness-raising events for cervical cancer, lower back pain, healthy diet for diabetic patients, asthma, and first aid. These events are held in places such as commercial markets, public and private hospitals, and public gathering places.

Male and Female Students at Applied Medical Sciences College won most of the Health Sciences Axis (Colleges of Medicine, Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, and Dentistry) awards at the Preparatory Scientific Meeting on the Second Scientific Conference for University Students held at Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) on Sunday 17th Rabi'I 1432H till Wednesday 20th  Rabi'I 1432H.

Female students at all the programs of the Applied Medical Sciences College celebrated the safe return of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to homeland as well as the issuance of his Royal Decrees.  

The ceremony included an overview of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques (May Allah Save him!), his life since birth till reign, in addition to his achievements. Moreover, many students recited praise poems that demonstrated his qualities, generosity, courage, and love towards his own homeland and people. Then, the attendees enthusiastically enjoyed listening to some patriotic songs. Finally, some simple gifts were distributed among the attendees such as necklaces that carried the photo of the beloved King of Saudi Arabia, May Allah Save him!      

 

Academic Development & Community Service Vice-President Visits AMS

The College of Applied Medical Sciences was honored by the visit of Prof. Dr. Esam bin Hamed Al-Ahdal, UQU Vice-President for Academic Development and Community Service, last Wednesday. During the visit, Prof. Dr. Al-Ahdal was accompanied by Dr. Sultan bin Ayed al-Buqami, Dean of Academic Development and Quality at the AMS College. He was also received by the Dean, Vice-Deans, Heads of Departments, Manager and Affiliates of AMS College. The event started with a speech by the Dean, in which he welcomed the University Vice-President and his entourage and then talked about the College’s steps towards academic accreditation.

The UQU Vice-President demonstrated a presentation on the experience of the Community Service and Continuous Education College to acquire the academic accreditation. The presentation showed a lot of aspects that should be taken into consideration regarding academic accreditation acquiring. Then, Prof. Dr. Al-Ahdal and Dr. Al-Buqami replied to interventions and queries very obviously and transparently. Afterwards, Dr. Osama Abdurrahman Sheikh Omar, AMS College Vice-Dean for Academic Development and Community Service, gave a speech in which he demonstrated in detail the efforts and future plans of the College to acquire the academic accreditation, and thanked everyone for their one-team cooperation. This was followed by the speeches of Dr. Hassan Bukhari, Head of the Clinical Nutrition Department, Dr. Na’eema Jabir, Supervisor of the Nursing Department, Dr. Ahmad Eshi, Head of the Laboratory Medicine (B. Lab. Med.) Department, and Dr. Ehab Abdulkafy, Head of the Physiotherapy Department. Such speeches discussed the obstacles and solutions in the way towards academic accreditation.   

At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Al-Ahdal expressed his gratitude and pleasure with such visit, appreciated the efforts of the College to acquire the academic accreditation, and wished the College all progress and prosperity.   

This was followed by a visit by the University Vice-President and his entourage to the College’s Academic Accreditation Office, and another visit to the Departments of Nursing, Clinical Nutrition and Physiotherapy, in which he listened to a detailed explanation of all provided equipment there. 

 

 

AMS Physiotherapy Dep. Visits DCA, Makkah

The Department of Physiotherapy at the College of Applied Medical Sciences visited the Disabled Children's Association in Makkah with the aim to support the services provided to disabled children. The visit resulted in an agreement between the two parties to support health aspects in various domains such as:

  1. Giving lectures, seminars and workshops in the various child-centered-rehabilitation related topics either to specialists or parents.
  2. Participating in social and environmental activities.
  3. Participating in research activities and doing scientific researches in the services of child-centered rehabilitation and the Saudi community, under the umbrella of the Association and in partnership with Umm Al-Qura University.   
  4. Participating in any other activities or events identified by the Association and were in accordance with the policies of UQU.

The visit was prepared by the Deanship of the College under supervision of Dr. Hany bin Salih Fidah, Vice-Dean of Hospital Affairs, Dr. Ehab Abdulkafy, Head of the Physiotherapy Department, as well as a group of the Department members and students. Moreover, the delegation was very warmly received by the management of the Association, represented by Dr. Najlaa Fakhruddin Rida, and the revered members thereof.   

 

AMS Nursing Dep. Participates in World Nursing Day

In sponsorship from the Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, and within the College’s event of community service, the Department of Nursing held a two-day ceremony to celebrate the World Nursing Day on Tuesday 22nd Jumada I 1432H (Abediyah Campus) and Wednesday 23rd Jumada I 1432H (Al Hijaz Plaza). The event was supervised by Dr. Na’eema Jabir, and organized and performed by the female students at the Department. The event included oral instructions, bulletins, and immediate live measurements about child protection against domestic accidents, breast cancer prevention, breastfeeding, diabetes and diabetic foot, autism, solution of behavioral and educational problems, etc. Such performance won the approbation of all the female visitors of the Exhibition, while a lot of gifts and awareness bulletins were distributed among the female attendees.  

 

AMS Hosts Al-Bushra High School Female Students

In sponsorship from the Vice-Deanship of Academic Development and Community Service at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, the female high school students of Al-Bushra School in Makkah visited, and were shown an overview of, the various departments at the College on Monday 21st Jumada I 1432H. Moreover, the students listened to a detailed explanation of the Department of Nursing which included information about the vocation of nursing, its curricula and domains of work. This was followed by a tour of the laboratories at the Departments of Nursing and Clinical Nutrition. In addition, the students watched a live experience about one of the nursing skills (i.e. method of childbirth), which gained their admiration along with the College’s laboratories.

The Vice Deanship for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research at the College of Applied Medical Sciences held an Excel training course for the College’s staff members. In this context, Dr. Mazen Khairo, Assistant Professor at the College of Social Sciences, demonstrated a detailed explanation of the principles and applications of the program, especially in the domain of scientific research. At the end of the course, Dr. Ahmad Eshi, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, thanked Dr. Mazen Khairo for the efforts he exerted to prepare such admired course.

AMS Vice Deanship for Postgraduate Studies Resumes New Year’s Scientific Club

The Scientific Club at the College of Applied Medical Sciences has been resumed under supervision of the Vice Deanship for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research and in cooperation with staff members at the College’s departments. This has been through organization of new scientific meetings and research discussions about medical research developments in the scientific arena. The Scientific Club Plan will be implemented according to a program prepared by the Vice Deanship for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research and a mechanism that organizes the participations of staff members at the College’s departments.   

The Scientific Club was launched last year in a ceremony that included the honoring by Dr. Ahmad Eshi, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, of the distinguished staff members who were chosen according to a scientific committee that judged their presented papers and concentrated on male and female teaching assistants.

World Osteoporosis Day Report

In cooperation between the Departments of Physiotherapy and Clinical Nutrition at the College of Applied Medical Sciences and the Saudi Physical Therapy Association (SPTA), the World Osteoporosis Day was launched last Thursday at 4:30 pm at osteoporosis spread, Makkah. The event aimed at reducing the spread of osteoporosis, activating the role of UQU in the domain of community service, as well as training the College’s students to activate their professional and national role towards community service and health development. 

The activity included tests of Bone Mineral Density (BMD), Anthropometric Measurements, and Body Fat Percentage (BFP), in addition to a questionnaire to test the factors of osteoporosis spread increase into the Meccan community. The event was concluded with diagnosis-and-lifestyle-based awareness. Moreover, BMD tests were applied to a sample of Al Hijaz Plaza male and female visitors via the Speed of Sound (SOS) device. 59 males at the ages between 21 and 52 (average: 34), and 97 females at the ages between 15 and 70 (average: 35) were tested. Initial results of the test indicated that the percentage of osteoporosis spread among Al Hijaz Plaza visitors reached 1.7% in males and 4.1% in females. On the other hand, the percentage of bone fracture risk was 8.5% in males and 9.3% in females.

In the same context, the sample was also subjected to tests of the factors that led to osteoporosis spread increase. Such factors included lifestyle, body fat percentage, pharmaceuticals, smoking, etc. Based on such tests and information, students provided the sample with health and nutrition instructions via leaflets, brochures, posters and booklets, which affected the sample positively.

On the other hand, and supported by the management of the College, Dr. Muhammad Abu-Bakr Basalama, Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Vice Dean for Hospital Affairs, and a number of staff members at the Departments of Clinical Nutrition, Physiotherapy and Laboratory Medicine attended the event and interacted with students and Al Hijaz Plaza visitors, which had a positive effect on the success of the World Osteoporosis Day.

The event was finalized at 10:00 pm after a sweepstakes for the attendees of the event from among Al Hijaz Plaza visitors, the gifts of which were presented by SPTA. 

 

Science & Tech. Head at Research Financing & Scientific Research Priorities Lecture

The College of Applied Medical Sciences launched on Sunday 11th Rabi’II 1433H a lecture titled, “Medicine-Related Research Financing & Scientific Research Priorities in KSA.” The lecture was presented by Dr. Basem Ref’at, Assistant Professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, who fluently explained a lot of necessary steps for good research financing acquirement. 

The event started with a speech by Dr. Muhammad Abu-Bakr Basalama, Dean of the College, and was attended by the vice deans, heads of departments and staff members of AMS, Pharmacy and Dentistry Colleges. In addition, Dr. Faisal Al-Allaf, Head of the Science and Technology Unit, intervened at the end of the lecture with a speech of gratitude to the Dean of AMS College for inviting him to attend such lecture. He also considered the event a leading step among UQU colleges to achieve scientific research bounces, and answered many queries in relation to research and its methods of application.

1st Student Achievements Scientific Day at AMS

In honor of the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), the College of Applied Medical Sciences is launching the First Scientific Day for Student Achievements on Tuesday and Wednesday 18-19th Jumada I 1433H at King Abdulaziz Hall1 (for men) and Hall2 (for women), Abediyah Campus. The event will include graduation presentations by fourth year students.   

The event will also include presentations and posters of the participating students’ researches, demonstration of the product included in student projects in various curricula, and display of innovative art work adopted among the activities of the Scientific Conference for Higher Education Students.

The College also will launch such event with the aim of:

  1. giving students chance through the scientific meeting to demonstrate their previous scientific product, achievements and activities,
  2. developing scientific research culture and giving students the chance to explore their research abilities through participation in competitive events. This will refine their experiences in the domain of scientific research and prepare them to take part in the largest scientific forums and research conferences all over KSA in a way that will honorably suit the reputation and prestige of UQU,
  3. providing students with communication and leadership skills.

In sponsorship with Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, the Vice-Deanship for Academic Development and Community Service launched on Saturday 15th Jumada I 1433H a lecture titled, "Updates in controlling of HCV." The lecture was given by Dr. Adel Jalal Al-Shimi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Al-Shimi fluently explained a lot of used and suggested modern methods and techniques of controlling Hepatitis C treatment, as well as the necessary steps for acquiring good research funds. Moreover, he answered many related questions and queries. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College, thanked Dr. Adel Al-Shimi for presentation of such valuable lecture and handed him a certificate of appreciation.

Stemming from the principles of alternative and continuous cooperation between Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) and Al Noor Specialized Hospital, the Administration of Medical Rehabilitation will organize two workshops to be presented by the following two staff members at the Department of Physiotherapy, the College of Applied Medical Sciences:

  • Dr. Ehab Abdulkafi will give a lecture titled, "Using Space Suit in Rehabilitation of the Disabled" on 20th -21st Jumada I 1434H (1st- 2nd April 2013).
  • Dr. Amir Abdullatif Al-Fiqi will give a lecture titled, "Rehabilitation of Cerebrovascular Accident Patients" on 6th – 7th Jumada II 1434H (16th – 17th April 2013).

UQU President honors Mr. Talal Al-Huseini

The President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, honored Mr. Talal bin Muhammad Al-Huseini, Administrator of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, for his distinct and diligence all through his work at UQU. This was at UQU President's Abediyah office in the presence of Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College.

On the other hand, Mr. Al-Huseini appreciated the initiative of UQU President. He said that it was no novelty that Dr. Assas was the best one to call for honoring and encouraging competencies.  He added, "I cannot forget Dr. Ahmad Eshi, Dean of the College, who used to thank us for all our work whether big or small. I would like to say thanks from the bottom of my heart to all who were behind such honoring which will motivate me, God Willing, to exert more effort for more giving."

 

AMS Dean Meets Staff Members

The Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences received all AMS staff members at the greeting ceremony held by the College's Administration on Thursday 22nd Shawwal 1434H morning at the Grand Meeting Hall, AMS College, Abediyah Campus.  

Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College, gave a speech in which he wished a happy Eid Al-Fitr for everyone. He prayed that Allah, the Almighty, would grant everyone many happy blessed returns full of perfect health and welfare, and accept their fasting, night prayers, and good deeds.

Dr. Eshi extended his thanks and gratitude to the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, for his continuous support that enabled the College, after guidance of Allah, to occupy such leading position among the rest of UQU colleges. He added that the output of AMS College became innovative and won the highest global awards in the scientific domain.  

Dr. Eshi also explained that the College and its significant departments were helping to accelerate the progress witnessed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia especially in the domain of applied medical sciences. He added that the College had always been distinguished with its developed scientific level that rendered it, and UQU, proud of the output of its departments, thanks to Allah!

On the other hand, the Dean invited the staff members to prepare all utilities of the College such as classrooms, halls, laboratories, and different teaching aids for the male and female students in the new academic year 1434/1435H.  

In the same context, the Dean urged everyone to double efforts, be dedicated to work, and create appropriate educational atmosphere in order for AMS College to reach its goals and turn the hopes and aspirations of UQU President into reality. This was because UQU President spared no effort to remove the obstacles in the ways of UQU colleges and departments for the service of his sons and daughters (i.e. students).

AMS Honoring Ceremony Sponsored by Dr. Ghazi

The College of Applied Medical Sciences held a ceremony in honor of Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, the Dean, and in sponsorship with Dr. Hani bin Othman Ghazi, University Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and Research. The event took place at a special lounge on Wednesday 5th Dhulqe’dah 1434H evening.

The event started with a speech by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi in which he praised Allah and prayed for peace to be upon His blessed Messenger, Muhammad (PBUH). Then, he welcomed everyone starting from Dr. Hani bin Othman Ghazi, who was considered the prime founder of AMS College.    

Afterwards, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi extended thanks and gratitude to Dr. Tariq bin Hilal Ashour for his tangible efforts and prominent role upon which he founded the rules and systems of AMS Academic Office and the Health Management Department which he was its first head. On this occasion, he recited in his honor touching lines of poetry that expressed his deep thanks and gratitude, and then he congratulated him on designation as Vice Dean of AMS College and wished him more guidance and success from Allah.

In the same context, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi extended thanks and gratitude to Dr. Osama bin Adnan Kensarah for his efforts during his designation as Vice Dean of the College and Head of Clinical Nutrition Department and wished him guidance and success from Allah.

He also congratulated Dr. Ammar bin Abdullah Attar on designation as Vice-Dean for Academic Development and Community Service and Head of the Health Management Department. In addition, Dr. Eshi praised Dr. Attar’s prominent role in academic development at the College since his designation as Vice-Dean for Academic Development and Community Service at the beginning of last year 1433/1434H. He also wished him guidance and success from Allah.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi congratulated Dr. Saad bin Sa’eed Al-Ghamdi on designation as Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs at the College and wished him guidance and success from Allah.

After his speech, Dr. Eshi invited Dr. Hani bin Othman Ghazi, sponsor of the event, to hand in memorial shields to the celebrated attendees.

Afterwards, Dr. Hani bin Othman Ghazi, University Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, gave a speech in which he congratulated the honored and wished them support from Allah at their work.

Within the same vein, Dr. Hani bin Othman Ghazi expressed his admiration of the noticeable role played by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College, in raising the level of the College.

Dr. Ghazi also congratulated all staff members and administrative employees on the ever-obvious familial intimacy among them. He stressed that this boosted the College to be one of the most significant UQU colleges and fulfill the aspirations of the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas.

Finally, the Dean of AMS College thanked everyone for honoring the event with attendance and invited them to eat the dinner that was prepared in honor of him.

SPSS-Based Data Management & Statistical Analysis Workshop

Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, is launching a workshop on SPSS-based statistical analysis. The workshop is being held by Dr. Islam Haidar and Dr. Amany Mukhtar on Monday, 24th Rabi'II 1435H at the AMS Grand Hall.

The workshop comes within a series of training courses and workshops organized by the College for the development of its staff members and students' skills and abilities.

Diabetes Affects Youth: Causes and Prevention

The Deanship of Student Affairs cooperated with the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the College of Applied Medical Sciences in the organization of a training evening about causes and prevention of diabetes at a young age. This comes within the attention paid by the AMS College, represented by the recommendations of Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, the Dean, concerning participation in youth-oriented scientific events and evenings. Dr. Muhammad Al-Boushi, Diagnostic Biochemistry Professor at AMS College, presented the lecture in which he demonstrated diabetes' definition, symptoms, diagnosis methods, in addition to causes and prevention of young-age diabetes.

 

 

Khairuddin Academic Writing Workshop for AMS Students

Within the framework of continuous support by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, for training and developmental activities at the College, the workshop titled, "Academic Writing using ENDNOTE web" was launched on Tuesday 3rd JumadaI 1435H. The workshop included a presentation by Lecturer/ Muhammad Muhammad Khairuddin to fourth year students who were ready for their graduation researches, on how to create their own "ENDNOTE web" accounts via Saudi Digital Library (SDL). The fourth years were shown also how to manage the process of scientific research writing using the program and how to use such program concurrently with MICROSOFT WORD. On the other hand, students interacted greatly with the event and expressed their satisfaction with the academic and other support provided to them by the Dean and staff members of the College.

UQU President Honors AMS Dean & 5th Student Conference Coordinator

The College of Applied Medical Sciences continued its distinction at various levels and in different domains. This was evident when the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, honored both Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College, and Dr. Muhammad bin Bakr Basalama, AMS Coordinator of the Fifth Student Conference. Dr. Assas stressed that UQU had high expectations specifically for AMS College concerning winning many awards in the Fifth Student Conference held in Riyadh. This was especially because the College had had the lion's share in many of the awards given at the UQU-hosted Fourth Student Conference, especially the Golden Feather Award in Scientific Research.

Dr. Amr Muhammad Abdulfattah (Associate Professor at the Laboratory Medicine Department; Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) College; Umm Al-Qura University (UQU)) was chosen to be included in "Who's Who in the World" Global Encyclopedia as one of the distinguished characters for the year 2014 in his domain of specialization, i.e. University Education and Scientific Research. "Who's Who in the World" is a scientific Encyclopedia which chooses distinguished characters that obviously contribute to the development and benefit of society in their domains of specialization.

"Proud to Serve the Hujjaj & Visitors" Campaign Launched

HRH Prince/ Mishaal bin Abdullah Al Saud, Governor of Makkah Province, launched the campaign titled, "We Are Proud to Serve the Hujjaj & Visitors" and organized by the General Presidency of the Holy Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque Affairs. In this context, the College of Applied Medical Sciences at Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) participated, for the second year in a row, in the Health Care and Reinforcement of Diabetes and Pressure-stricken Pilgrims Program.  Such blessed participation was sponsored by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College, and Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim, Coordinator of the Program and Supervisor of the Physiotherapy Department.  Moreover, the event was also participated in by the various departments, staff members and students of the College. Within the same vein, UQU was honored at the event with a shield of honors received by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of AMS College, on behalf of UQU President.

Academic Accreditation Efforts Orientation for AMS Students

AMS Students Preparation for AHPGS Accreditation

Within the framework of the preparations by the College of Applied Medical Sciences for the AHPGS Accreditation, the Quality Assurance Committee at the Department of Laboratory Medicine coordinated with the Vice Deanship of Academic Development and Community Service to organize a lecture titled, “AMS Students Preparation for AHPGS Accreditation.” The lecture was given by Prof. Dr. Raafat Abdulmon’em Hasanein Yousef, Professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine. In addition to many staff members, the lecture was attended by a large number of students of the College’s various programs which included Laboratory Medicine, Physiotherapy, and Health Management. This was on Tuesday 21st Dhulqi’dah 1435H (16th September 2014) at 12:00 pm at Supporting Hall1, King Abdulaziz Historical Hall, UQU Abediyah Campus. The lecture was characterized by students’ interaction with both the lecturer and attending staff members; it focused on the following elemnts:

  1. A historical overview of the Accreditation Vice Deanship in the domains of health and social affairs
  2. Quality in Higher Education and Academic Accreditation
  3. Significance of quality to students
  4. Students’ role in the application of education quality systems at the university

1st Health Services Innovation & Quality Student Exhibition Concluded: "How to Improve Health Services in Our Hospitals?"

Under the patronage of the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, the First Student Exhibition for Innovation and Quality of Health Services was concluded. It is noteworthy that the Exhibition was organized by the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) on the theme "How to Improve Health Services in Our Hospitals?" at Supporting King Abdulaziz Historical Hall, Abediyah Campus. It was also attended by Dr. Yasser bin Suleiman Shosho (Vice-President of the University), Prof. Abdulaziz Sorouji (UQU Vice-President for Educational Affairs), Dr. Muhammad bin Wassel al-Hazemi (UQU Vice-President for Branches), Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of AMS College), Dr. Anmar Nasser (Dean of the College of Medicine), Dr. Fawwaz Ahmad Saad, (Dean of Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), as well as AMS vice deans, heads of departments, staff members and students.

The exhibition included many creative elements that explained many of the basic ideas and principles of health services quality management science, which contributed to improving the performance and effectiveness of the health system in our dear society.

Elements of the Exhibition:

  1. Highlighting the significance of administration in general and the Department of Health Administration in particular.
  2. Definition of the most significant administrative tasks and the method to apply them efficiently at both vocational and personal levels.
  3. Demonstration of some developed administrative concepts such as the concept of quality.
  4. Definition of problem-solving and performance improvement methods.
  5. Clarification of the most common prominent administrative skills and their ways of application.
  6. The guide to the best management books and display of administrative success stories.
  7. Definition of Design Thinking methodology, stages and practical application.

Description of the Exhibition:

(Health Administration Significance Corner)

Objective: Audience awareness and education concerning the significance of administration in general and health management in particular. 

(Communication Skills and Contemporary Issues Corner)

Objective: Definition of the significance of communication among all members of the Organization and its consequent negatives, in addition to the selection of the optimal ways and communication skills to address contemporary issues.

(Planning Corner)

Objective: Clarification of planning mechanism to achieve the set objectives

(Quality Corner)

Objective: Clarification of quality status and significance in the administrative domain, application of some required quality skills, as well as definition of the nine basic quality elements.

(Organization Corner)

Objective: Clarification of the different styles of the organizational structure, and organization steps and application in simple and entertaining ways.

(Environmental and Occupational Health Corner)

Objective: Definition of administrators' efforts to maintain the environmental safety of patients, staff and visitors inside and outside the hospital to reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics.

(Administrative Library Corner)

Objective: Demonstration of the most prominent and significant books in the domain of administration in a visitor-attracting manner.

(Human Resources Corner)

Objective: Clarification of the main tasks of the Department of Human Resources at the hospital.

(Patient Safety Corner)

Objective: Highlighting the role of the administration in maintaining the safety of staff, patients and visitors.

(Motivation Corner)

Objective: Display of the most significant motivation theories for staff and workers at health foundations to increase the participants' human resources skills.

(Innovation Corner)

Objective: Clarification of the innovation process' methodology through explanation of Design Thinking methodology.

(Leadership Corner)

Objective: Explanation of the various leadership patterns with an attempt to identify the leadership style of the attendees.

(Infection Control Corner)

Objective: Education of attendees about the most significant means of controlling infection acquired through hospitals and health service foundations, and the clarification of the most significant ways of transmission inside such foundations.

(Labor Wings Corner)

Objective: Displaying the personal experience of a group of students to apply the health services quality management subject in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor.

(Strategic Planning Corner)

Objective: Displaying the achievements of a group of students to develop the strategic planning domain.

(Physiotherapy Department Corner)

Objective: Demonstration of the most significant means of patient safety when dealing with the devices used in the domain of physiotherapy, such as laser.

Educational lectures for the attendees:

  • Lecture on Safety Principles.
  • Lecture on Quality in Health Care.
  • Lecture on Application of Balanced Scorecard in Health Foundations.

"Innovation Stages within Insistence Environment" Workshop Presented by Female Students

The Exhibition:

The rhetorical ceremony on this occasion started with a Qur'anic recitation.

Then, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of AMS College), gave a speech in which he welcomed the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, and the attendees. He clarified that the First Student Exhibition for Innovation and Quality of Health Services was one of the College’s products that aimed at raising the level of health services, in addition to adopting and highlighting the efforts of its students through its exhibitions in the past years, which prompted it to adopt the slogan "Creativity is Our Goal."

Afterwards, the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, gave a speech in which he commended the efforts of AMS male and female students, and the roles of AMS staff members to highlight distinguished models. Moreover, he stressed that UQU was keen to encourage and support all the talents and creative ideas that would serve its country and community. For example, he cited the recent UQU achievements and access to global rankings by recording 100 patents. He asserted that the floor was open for all creative ideas that would contribute to the service of this country and its citizens.  

Dr. Assas showed that such achievements and creative ideas would not have come out without Allah’s grace in the first place and then the attention, care and support given to this university by the rulers in this benevolent country (May Allah grant them guidance!), in addition to the continuous support and follow-up by the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Angari. This made UQU step very rapidly in all its scientific, educational and community programs. Moreover, UQU output became at such advanced level of thinking and creativity and became a requirement for many actors. Finally, Dr. Assas wished that success would crown everyone’s efforts.

At the end of the event, Dr. Assas received a souvenir from Dr. Ahmad Eshi, Dean of AMS College, who in turn was given a similar gift by the organizing committee.

AHPGS Visit AMS College

Thanks to Allah, the two-day visit by the Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS) to the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) was concluded yesterday, 10th Muharram 1436H. During such visit, a group of AHPGS experts checked the level of readiness by the College, represented in its four programs (i.e. Laboratory Medicine, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Clinical Nutrition and Health Administration), for accreditation, in addition to its abidance by the application of international academic standards.   

Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of AMS College), welcomed the members of the expert group, wished them a pleasant stay in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and accompanied them on their inspection tours of labs and classrooms. Dr. Eshi stated that AMS College’s efforts to obtain the Certificate of International Academic Accreditation were nothing but part of its strategic plan to raise the level of educational process quality. This would prioritize the interest of students and develop all elements of the educational process including staff members, study equipment and different output.

Such visit by the expert group was culminated in by the strenuous effort and hard work by all AMS College staff members and employees over more than two years, in order to achieve the highest standards of educational process quality. This was positively reflected in the educational process output at the AMS College.

UQU President Honors Laboratory Inventors within 1st 100 Patents Ceremony

Within the ceremony of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU)’s registration of 100 patents in its name, Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, UQU President, honored Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences AMS), Dr. Muhammad bin Bakr Ba-Salama (Vice Dean of AMS College for Scientific Research), Dr. Adel Jalal Al-Sheemy and Dr. Basem Amr Refaat for their registration of (4) patents that would be added to their academic record full of scientific contributions and achievements. This comes as a result of continuous attention and support by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College, and Dr. Muhammad bin Bakr Ba-Salama, Vice Dean of AMS College for Scientific Research.

AMS Dean Delivers 1434-1435H Annual Report to UQU President

The President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, received the 1434-1435H annual report of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) from Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (the Dean), Dr. Muhammad bin Bakr Ba-Salama (Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research), Dr. Saad Al-Ghamdi (Vice Dean for Academic Affairs), of Dr. Hany bin Salih Fidah (Vice Dean for Hospital Affairs), Dr. Na’eem bin Fawzi Qesty, Dr. Ali Abdulmunsif (Supervisor of the Development Vice Deanship), and Prof. Talal bin Muhammad Al-Huseini, Administrator of the College.   

The report encompassed detailed information on the activities and achievements of the AMS College during the 1434/1435H academic year in the various academic, research, community service, and development domains.

AMS Celebrates Academic Accreditation Completion

In an atmosphere filled with joy, the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) held the Academic Accreditation Completion Ceremony on Thursday 27th Muharram 1436H. The celebration was considered the best conclusion to the strenuous effort and action by management and staff members of the College, which would be crowned, God willing, by obtaining the accreditation soon. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of AMS College), Dr. Ayman Jawahirji (Dean of the College of Nursing), Dr. Ahmad Babul-Ghaith (Dean of the College of Public Health), as well as the AMS College vice deans, staff members and employees. During the event, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi honored Dr. Hany bin Salih Fidah, former Vice Dean for Hospital Affairs, extended to him deep thanks and gratitude for the time he spent in such position as it was characterized with a lot of achievements, and wished him continuous success.

AMS Dean Establishes 1st Therapeutic & Sports Nutrition Think Tank

Due to guidance and support from Allah, then upon the approval of the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, Dr. Ali bin Muhammad Al-Shaeri (Dean of the Institute of Consulting Research and Studies) and Prof. Dr. Nabil bin Abdulqader Koshak (Vice-President for Cognitive Work and Creativity), a think tank titled, "Elite Nutrition Office" was established with the aim of providing consultancy in the therapeutic and sports nutrition. The office would be headed by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS). Moreover, the office would be considered the first of its kind in the Western Region, which would provide counseling in nutrition and sports for the interested categories and also would organize courses and workshops in the same domain.

The think tank would be basically membered by Dr. Firas Sultan Al-Ezzah (Think Tank Coordinator), Dr. As-Sayyed Hamed Bakr, Mr. Abdulelah Sami Jazar. In addition to that, the think tank would go into partnerships with specialists in the domestic market to develop and assist in its work.

Laboratory Medicine Dep. Participates in Preparatory Year Exhibition

The Department of Laboratory Medicine at the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) participated in the Preparatory Year Exhibition launched by the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, on Monday 4th Jumada I 1436H (23rd February 2015) at King Abdulaziz Historical Hall. The launching ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmad Eshi, Dean of the College, and Dr. Saad Al-Ghamdi, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs. Moreover, the organization of the Laboratory Medicine Department Corner, which was commended by the attendees, was supervised by both Dr. Saad Al-Ghamdi and Dr. Abdulghani Hasan. In addition, the event witnessed the participation of the following students:

  • Ahmad Abdullah As-Syamy   Second Year

The students provided their Preparatory Year colleagues with sufficient information about the Department, its activities and subjects. They also displayed illustrative samples of microscopes and some devices used in the study at the College, and clarified the related points in the domain of practical life afterwards.

 

AMS' Introductory Meeting with Scholarships General Supervisor

The College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) held an introductory meeting with Dr. Ahmad Barqawi, General Supervisor on the Department of Scholarships, in the presence of Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (the Dean), Dr. Muhammad Ba-Salama (Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research), and a number of AMS staff members.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Ahmad Eshi welcomed Dr. Ahmad Barqawi and thanked him for accepting the invitation to meet with the College's teaching assistants and lecturers. Dr. Eshi explained that such meeting reinforced the attention, support and follow up towards the College's scholars by the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas.

Afterwards, Dr. Ahmad Barqawi outlined the Department of Scholarships, and then displayed UQU procedures, mechanisms and efforts all through the scholarship.

The President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, announced that all programs of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) were academically accredited by the Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS), one of the most prominent international bodies that granted accreditation in educational programs including Laboratory Medicine, Physiotherapy, Clinical Nutrition and Health Administration.

On this occasion, the Dean of AMS College extended deep thanks in his name and on behalf of all UQU affiliates to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, HRH the honest Crown Prince and HRH Deputy Crown Prince (May Allah save them!) for their generous support given to the educational process in our blessed country in general and at UQU in particular. Dr. Eshi also asserted that such achievements would not have been fulfilled without the grace of Allah in the first place, and then the continuous support for UQU by the generous rulers (May Allah save them!). He also attributed such achievements to the unending direction to UQU by HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul-Aziz, the Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of Makkah, and the permanent support and personal follow-up by Dr. Azzam bin Muhammad Ad-Dakhil (Minister of Education), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas (UQU President), and Dr. Hani Ghazi (UQU Vice-President for Academic Development and Community Service).  

Dr. Eshi also noted that this came within the developmental steps that the College worked to implement in all its programs and scientific departments to raise the level of its education, research and community service, in accordance with the standards in line with the programs applied by the most prestigious universities in the world.

He also explained that the academic accreditation was considered a formal recognition of the high quality of UQU's academic, educational and research programs, and study plans that were compatible with the labor market requirements to enable graduates to work in all the different conditions. In addition, he pointed out that the academic accreditation of UQU programs aimed to achieve comprehensive programmatic quality in pursuit of keeping pace with global universities in the domain of scientific and educational programs.    

The Dean of AMS College also thanked the College's male and female staff members for such successive fulfillments and their tireless efforts to achieve quality in all UQU programs. Besides, he thanked them for their three-year hard work since the beginning of the College's ambition to obtain the International Academic Accreditation under the leadership of Dr. Ammar al-Attar (Former Vice Dean for Development), Dr. Ali Abdulmonsef Thabit (his successor), and all the members of the College's Quality Committee. Finally, he wished all of them permanent success for the elevation and benefit of the AMS College.

The Department of Clinical Nutrition at the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), Umm Al- Qura University (UQU), ranked first, second and third at the Sixth Scientific Conference of UQU Male and Female Students for the academic year 1435-1436H.

Dr. Ahmad Eshi, Dean of the College, stressed that the advanced ranks of AMS students in the Conference were the result of the support by the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, pointing out that the College won the first three awards. 

Dr. Eshi explained that the first three ranks were given to the following female Clinical Nutrition students respectively: Raghad Zuheir Muhammad Molibary (under supervision of both Dr. Ibrahim Dabbour and Prof. Abdulelah Jazar), Ola Bakr Ali Tekrony and Basha’er Saad Al-Mahmady Al-Harbi (under supervision of Dr. Firas Al-Ezzah).

He added that such achievement would not have been fulfilled without the solidarity among the College’s staff members and administrators. Finally, he wished that Allah, the Almighty, would render such scientific edifice towering over the years to serve the people of this beloved country.

In terms of activating the role of Umm Al Qura University (UQU) in the domain of community service and health awareness, and under the patronage of the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) launched, thanks to Allah, the event titled, “No Diabetes, Better Life” about diabetes on Thursday 13th Jumada II 1436H at the Makkah-based Makkah Mall. The event was supervised by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of the College) and Dr. Ali Thabit (Vice Dean for Community Service). In addition, it witnessed the participation of the College’s staff members and the efforts and coordination of its students. Dr. Ahmad Eshi clarified that such event aimed at the definition of diabetes, methods to deal with it and prevent its complications, as well as training the College’s male and female students to activate their professional and national roles to serve community and improve health level. He pointed out that the participation included Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) as well as Body Fat Percentage (BFP). Moreover, the students implemented health and nutrition directions to the mall visitors via leaflets, brochures, posters and booklets, which had a positive impact among the mall visitors. Besides, everyone commended the work of the students at all the departments of AMS College (i.e. Physiotherapy, Clinical Nutrition, Laboratory Medicine and Health Management). In addition, the visitors liked the event and interacted with its various following corners: (Explanation of Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes, Complications, Prevention, Tests of BGM, Blood Pressure and Weight, Diabetes Mellitus, as well as children's entertainment Corner).

Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), the grade activity for third-Year female students at the Department of Clinical Nutrition was launched on Tuesday 11th Jumada II 1436H at 11:00 am. The event was attended by Dr. Haifaa Hijazi, Head of the Department of Clinical Nutrition, in addition to a group of the College's staff and administrative structure members. The event was considered a grade activity for the subjects of Malnutrition and Nutrition Counseling under the supervision of Dr. Islam Ahmad Haidar, Dr. As-Sayyed Hamed Ali Bakr and Dr. Nihal Amin Al-Fiqi. The event was praised by the College's staff and administrative structure members, on top of whom was Mr. Talal Husseini, Administrator of the College. Moreover, the event included the aspects of healthy nutrition, definition, prevention and treatment of malnutrition, as well as special diets with suitable calories to the individuals' needs and income. The event also involved nutrition counseling to malnutrition cases that included hair loss, iron deficiency anemia, sickle-cell disease (SCD), rickets, osteoporosis, cavity, Vitamin B1 deficiency, dehydration, etc. Such activities were displayed in the forms of posters, leaflets, booklets and ready-made treatment meals, scientific lectures, etc.    

On the other hand, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi expressed his pride with the participation of the third-year Clinical Nutrition female students in such a wonderful and dazzling work, and commended them for sparing no effort to perfectly achieve it. He also asserted that such activity came within the framework of the AMS students’ role activation to implement their subjects’ grade activities that were included in quality and academic development. He also noted that such activities prepared and encouraged AMS students for community participation in the framework of activating the role of UQU in community service.

In the presence of the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) celebrated the international academic accreditation of all its educational programs, at the College's meeting hall, Abediyah Campus.

Dr. Ahmad Eshi (Dean of the College) indicated, "Today we harvest the fruits of the success and struggle story of some UQU recorded achievements." He noted that the journey of Academic Accreditation was started very seriously by Dr. Essam Al-Ahdal. Then, Dr. Al-Ahdal was succeeded by Dr. Hani Ghazi, the man of development and quality, as UQU Vice-President for Academic Development and Community Service. Dr. Ghazi completed the journey through his usual excellence, the influence of which on the College was evident in obtaining the International Academic Accreditation, as a result of the continuous directions and advices by him and the working team at the Vice-Presidency. In addition to that, Dr. Eshi commended the support of all UQU Vice Deans, as well as the support and concern by the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas.     

Dr. Eshi also praised the significant role played, and the effort exerted, by AMS staff members. They used to work nonstop all through days and nights, as if in a beehive, to serve the College. He also thanked the prominent role of Mr. Talal Husseini, Administrator of the College, and all UQU employees for sparing no effort to contribute to the College's distinction that was finally crowned with the International Academic Accreditation.

In the same context, UQU President, Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, appreciated the efforts exerted by Dr. Essam Al-Ahdal, Former Vice-President for Academic Development and Community Service, and his successor, Dr. Hani Ghazi. He thanked both of them for the advanced achievements in the domain of Institutional Academic Accreditation (Thanks God!).     

Dr. Assas also congratulated Dr. Ghazi, the working team at the Vice-Presidency for Academic Development and Community Service, Dr. Ahmad Eshi (Dean of the AMS College), as well as all AMS College affiliates for their distinctive efforts through the past years, as they contributed to such achievement through the guidance by Allah, the Almighty.

UQU President also explained that the academic accreditation was considered a formal recognition of the strength of UQU's academic, educational and research programs, and study plans that were compatible with the labor market requirements to enable graduates to work in all different conditions and obtain scholarships at all other universities outside UQU. In addition, he pointed out that the academic accreditation of UQU programs aimed to achieve comprehensive programmatic quality in pursuit of keeping pace with global universities in the domain of scientific and educational programs. He also made clear that such achievement could not be considered an end; however, it was the beginning of the journey towards development and excellence.  

Within the same vein, Dr. Assas indicated that such pleasant achievements were fulfilled with the support and concern of our wise government (May Allah save it!), and the follow-up and keenness of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Azzam Al-Dakhil, which aimed at supporting UQU academic programs for International Academic Accreditation to bring it to world-class status.

HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul-Aziz, the Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of Makkah, received the Academic Accreditation certificates obtained recently by Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) from the Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS) for seven educational programs. The accreditation involved three scientific UQU colleges: the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), represented in the Departments of Laboratory Medicine, Health Administration, Clinical Nutrition and Physiotherapy, the College of Nursing and the College of Public Health and Health Informatics. This was during HRH’s reception of the UQU delegation, headed by the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, this day at his Makkah Province Emirate office.  

On this occasion, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of AMS College) pointed out to the generous support given by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, HRH the honest Crown Prince, HRH Deputy Crown Prince, HRH Governor of Makkah, and UQU President (May Allah support them!) to the educational process in our blessed country in general and at UQU in particular. Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS)) and Dr. Amr Abdulfattah (Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine), launched in the presence of the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Vice Dean for Hospital Affairs, Dr. Saad bin Saeed al-Ghamdi the Internship Day for the male and female fourth-year Laboratory Medicine students in King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) on Monday 7th Shaaban 1436H. The event aimed to increase awareness among the fourth-year Laboratory Medicine students of the rules and regulations adopted during their training at different hospitals.

In this context, Dr. Muhammad Mubasher Khan, Microbiology Professor and Head of the Study Regulations, Training, Hospitals & Internship Affairs Follow-up Committee at the Department, gave a presentation on the information and skills that should be acquired by a trainee during his/her internship year. He also demonstrated the rules and regulations that should be adopted during the training period and that were related to the work system, number of working hours and vacations, and the method of periodical monitoring and evaluation of the trainees.

Then, Trainee/ Hayam Usama Al-Mulla (KAMC) gave a presentation on the frequently asked questions among trainees concerning the internship year, and transferred her training experience to the attending students.  

Afterwards, Dr. Saad bin Saeed al-Ghamdi, Vice Dean for Hospital Affairs, gave a speech in which he welcomed the new training Laboratory Medicine students at various hospitals. In addition, he urged them to abide by the internship period and attempt to make the most of such significant period.  He also replied to the many queries by the attending students.

Finally, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of AMS College, concluded the event by directing to the attending students a speech in which he pointed out to the significance of the internship year as a basic phase and cornerstone of their coming practical and vocational life. He urged his students to spare no effort during the training period which would benefit them during their careers. He also stressed the significance of adhering to the rules and regulations of hospitals which contributed to the creation of a good first impression of trainees and added more harmony to the image of the AMS College as the first in the Western Region to have all its programs internationally accredited. He added that the accreditation basically contributed to the enhancement of the College’s output and to the graduation of knowledgeable and skilled students at the highest level. At the end of the speech, Dr. Eshi thanked the attending staff members for the great effort they exerted for the elevation of the AMS College and UQU.

HRH Prince/ Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul-Aziz, Governor of Makkah Province, launched the campaign titled, "We Are Proud to Serve the Hujjaj & Visitors" and organized by the General Presidency of the Holy Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque Affairs. In this context, the College of Applied Medical Sciences at Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) participated, for the third year in a row, in the Health Care and Reinforcement of Diabetes and Pressure-stricken Pilgrims Program.  Such blessed participation was sponsored by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College, and Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim, Coordinator of the Program and Supervisor of the Physiotherapy Department.  Moreover, the event was also participated in by the various departments, staff members and students of the College. Within the same vein, UQU was honored at the event with a shield of honors received by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of AMS College.

An introductory meeting was held by the Department of Laboratory Medicine to welcome its new second-year students, introduce them to its staff members and explain its study plan for their three years to come.

The event was attended by Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS)), Dr. Amr Abdulfattah (Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine) and the Laboratory Medicine Department's staff members.

The meeting started with a speech by Dr. Ahmad Eshi in which he welcomed the new students, wished them success and directed them through advice and guidance to ensure their excellence during their study at the Department.

Then, Dr. Amr Abdulfattah, Head of the Department, gave a speech in which he stressed the significance of students' commitment and the Departments' international academic accreditation for the five years to come, God willing!

Afterwards, Dr. Raafat Hasanein gave a comprehensive presentation on the program's vision, mission, objectives, study plan and all significant introductory information for the students at the Department.

At the end of the meeting, discussion was opened to answer the questions of the Department's new students.

The President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Ma’tooq Assas, pointed out to the road plan applied by the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) a few years ago in the domain of scientific research. Such hard scientific effort culminated in the first research issue by the College: (Scientific Publications of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) Report for the Academic Years 1432-1433H and 1434-1435H).

This was during the launch of the issue by Dr. Assas yesterday in the morning at his Abediyah-based office, in the presence of Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi (Dean of the College), Dr. Muhammad bin Bakr Ba-Salama (Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research), in addition to a number of AMS staff members.

Dr. Assas added that scientific research was a basic foundation for development, an essential feature of global universities and an advantage of which the university was proud among its counterparts.   

He went on saying that the AMS College was at the forefront of UQU colleges in the domain of ​​research. It was first in publishing its researches in international journals, and also its researches ranked first in many scientific posts locally and internationally.

On the other hand, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, asserted that the idea of such report stemmed from an integrated scientific research plan which he thoroughly followed up via direction, opinion, and obstacle removal. Thanks to Allah then to Dr. Eshi, this resulted in the publication of (180) researches in a number of solid scientific international journals in a lot of countries such as America, Britain and Italy through the past three years. Moreover, more than half of such researches were published in Thomson Reuters database, a periodical that classified universities according to their researches every three years.

Both HRH Prince/ Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul-Aziz, the Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of Makkah Province, and Sheikh Dr. Abdurrahman As-Sudais, the General President of the Holy Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque Affairs, honored Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Eshi, Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), for the participation of Physiotherapy students and staff members at AMS College in the mobile health clinics titled, "We Are Proud to Serve the Hujjaj & Visitors."

Dr. Ahmad Eshi clarified that such participation stemmed from the College’s community responsibility for the development and provision of medical services to pilgrims.In the same context, Dr. Eshi indicated that such voluntary participation included the design and operation of mobile health clinics in the area of the Holy Mosque, navigation among pilgrims, movement to distant places to see and help the injured and exhausted, in addition to care for pilgrims especially those with special needs, diabetes, pressure, and diabetic foot. The Mobile Clinic Operation Team was headed by Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim.

Dr. Haifaa Hijazi has been designated as Head of the Department of Clinical Nutrition, the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), in addition to her work as an Academic Supervisor at the College, for two years as of 2nd Muharram II 1437H.

Prof. Dr. Amr Abdulfattah, Laboratory Medicine Department Professor, participated in the Scientific Conference:

"4th International conference on Clinical Microbiology & Microbial Genomics"; Philadelphia, USA; October 05-07, 2015

With a research titled,

"In vitro characterization of five potential antigenic proteins that elicited specific immune reaction for tuberculous Mycobacterium in guinea pig models"

And as a main speaker, he gave a scientific lecture titled,

"Multidrug resistant Tuberculosis; Are We Aware Enough?"

In addition to that, he headed one of the Conference's sessions.

Comprehensive Quality Course at AMS College

As a reinforcement of the World Quality Day and under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), a course titled, “Comprehensive Quality” was launched on Wednesday 6th Safar 1437H and presented by the female students at the Department of Health Administration. The course included the concept of quality in Islam, quality in the past and present, and benefits and applications of quality. The course also included the significance of hygienic quality to the medical team, patients and health foundations. Moreover, two workshops titled, “useful and useless” and “Origami” were organized. The course was then concluded by a video presentation clarifying that quality was an Islamic concept which existed centuries ago.  

Then, corners were activated to reinforce such event. The first corner tackled quality and accreditation in Saudi Arabia and their operation and benefits.

The second corner was about quality methodologies. It focused on FOCUS PDCA, as well as the international patient safety goals and their ways of application at hospitals and health centers.  

At the third corner, the famous “Monopoly” method was utilized to clarify the ways to overcome obstacles and solve problems faced by hospital managers, and to attempt to achieve the best quality. 

Health Quality Magazine also participated in the event by introducing itself, as well as its most prominent fundamentals and achievements.

On the other hand, the course was attended by a group of medical college professors, in addition to a large number of health college female students and interns whose attendance was recorded by AMS College approved certificates.

AMS Dean, Laboratory Medicine Dep. Head Meet with Laboratory Medicine Students

Student Meeting: The meeting among the Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), the Head of the Laboratory Medicine Department, and the Laboratory Medicine students was held on Monday 23rd November 2015.
