Overview of the Unit

Voluntary work is one of the actions that Islam urged and that the Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) invited Muslims to engage in. It is defined as the effort exerted by an individual or group of individuals on their own, not by force or coercion, for no financial gain, whether the effort exerted is intellectual, physical, financial, or social; it is done first to seek reward from Allah the Almighty, and then for community elevation and development. Voluntary work is a social phenomenon that achieves interdependence, harmony, and brotherhood among members of society. 

Islamic Shari`ah has shown us that the concept of voluntary work is broad and limitless and that everyone can provide good work for their community and nation.
