Thanks to God’s grace and the foresight of our Government, the kind approval of His Majesty the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God rest his soul in peace, on establishing the Faculty of Computer, Umm Al-Qura University, in Al-Laith, was issued in 1433 Hijri.
The Faculty has four departments:
The Computer Science Department was the first to be inaugurated. Since the establishment of the Faculty, there are incessant efforts by the University administration and the Faculty employees to have the faculty established according to the latest study plans and curricula in the world to graduate distinguished students and to cope with the latest achievements in the information technology world.
Driven by its focus on development and advancement, the University has provided the Faculty with a group of distinguished University staff to contribute to the academic mission of Umm Al-Qura University.
In scientific research and publishing, many scientific researches in diverse fields were published and the faculty took part in many research projects. The Faculty is very keen on preparing a group of highly qualified graduates of high academic standards who have the required knowledge and skills to deal effectively with the interwoven problems of the modern societies. In addition, they will be capable of disseminating the knowledge they gained in their societies to improve awareness with computer importance and enrich its practices.
Therefore, work on establishing and equipping the Faculty was set off to receive students in the academic year of 1433/1434 Hijri, and we moved to the new building in Al-Laith in the first semester of the academic year of 1433 Hijri.
To carry out its academic mission, Faculty study halls and labs were equipped with top-notch equipments. Currently, the Faculty has seven computer labs, of which four for computer engineering and the remaining three for computer science.
Number of students now reached about 500 of male and female students, and many of our students took part in scientific, cultural and sports activities.
In this regard, it’s our pleasure to express our gratitude to the Minister of Education for his unstinting support and the University President for his wise guidance and personal interest in the Faculty as well as all Vice-Presidents for their efforts.
