Vision

The Department of Biochemistry endeavors to become a center of excellence in Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah region and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based on its high quality contributions in the fields of biochemistry education, scientific research, and public service, having national and international accreditation.

Overview

I am pleased to welcome you to the site on behalf of the staff of the Department of Biochemistry.

The Department of Biochemistry in the College of Medicine at Umm Al-Qura University was established as one of the oldest departments of the basic science divisions in the College of Medicine. Biochemistry is the study of the basic processes of life that occur within the human body during health and when inflicted with diseases. It also deals with clinical diagnostics and the follow-up of diseases, as well as the follow-up on the effect of medicines on the health of the patients.

The Department of Biochemistry plays a prominent role in teaching several curricula for students in the medical colleges in Umm Al-Qura University at the undergraduate level. This is in addition to teaching this science to students of the College of Medicine, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Nursing, the College of Medical Sciences, and the Joint First Year.

The Department of Clinical Biochemistry also teaches the postgraduate study program of MSc in Clinical Biochemistry, which enables the graduates to obtain a degree in this specialization. This specialization helps qualify them to find better job opportunities and create a generation that has the ability to keep pace with the scientific, research and practical development in this field.

The department has an excellent research history and outstanding facilities, and includes a constellation of outstanding academic staff members, as evidenced by the record of the scientific publications of the department.

• To provide students of medicine with the latest information about biochemistry.
• To train students about the academic and scientific research techniques and problem-solving.  
• To design postgraduate studies in the field of medical biochemistry in such manner helps them to become scholars and specialized researchers in this field. 
• To set high-quality research strategy in the field of medical biochemistry aimed at creating new insights, improve the health condition of the community members and overcome diseases. 
• To provide Makkah hospitals with diagnostic services through the clinical biochemistry.  
• To provide specialized consultancy in the field of biochemistry. 
• To consolidate professional cooperation in teaching and scientific research at the local and international levels. 
• To encourage students towards development and commitment to lifelong learning.
