The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Umm Al-Qura University held an online scientific seminar via WebEx which was attended by the academic staff and students of the department. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Abdullah AlZahrani, in coordination with Dr. Muhammad Yahia.

During the seminar, Prof. Hamdy Youssef reviewed his latest research, entitled: "HY-Index: A New Science-Meter Index". Prof. Hamdy outlined the criteria for evaluating the researchers and their importance, and also explained the problems and shortcomings of the current criteria. Prof. Hamdy added that the proposed "HY" criterion addresses the shortcomings of the current criteria, as it reflects the quality of the researcher's published work in a more accurate manner.

Moreover, Dr. Naief Almalki discussed his research topic: "Investigation of Two-Phase Flow Through Single and Multi-Stage Orifices". He explained the problems related to power generation plants using steam turbines, such as pipe degradation, and how to calculate two-phase pressure drop due to single and multi-stage orifices based on a set of experiments and accurate measurements. Also, Dr. Almalki discussed the flow pattern change downstream of the orifice and how this change can be predicted using artificial intelligence.
