Dean of the College of Computers: We Seek to Build the Students’ Capabilities for the Benefit and Development of Society

In light of the fact that education is a process of creating an empowered individual able to contribute to building and developing the society, the College of Engineering in Al-Leith organized a field visit for its students to the Carrier factory for the production of central air-conditioning units of various capacities, being the first factory to be built in the Saudi Kingdom. This visit came within the framework of joint cooperation between Umm Al-Qura University and the Carrier factory.

The delegation was headed by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Iskandar bin Muhammad Hawsawi, and included the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Muhammad bin Taher Abid, the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, Dr. Waheeb Al-Harbi, and a number of students from the Colleges of Engineering and Computers. During the field visit, the delegation was briefed on the manufacturing and production of the air-conditioning units and refrigeration equipment of various capacities, and the construction of electrical power generating units that raise the efficiency of consumption and economic use.

Eng. Husam Eissa, the Laboratories Director and Products Development Manager at the Carrier factory, reviewed the employment policy, the production laboratories, and the qualification and training at the headquarters for the factory workers and trainees from various governmental and educational institutions.

On his part, Dr. Iskandar Muhammad Hawsawi emphasized, during the tour, that the college works with its partners, in joint cooperation, and exchanges their experiences through this visit, which enables the participating students to practice the analytical abilities acquired in the academic curricula. He added that this methodology is one of the most important educational methodologies adopted in the college, within the educational and academic process, to stimulate creative ideas and instill confidence in the students. This is to stimulate their active participation in the educational environment.

Concluding the visit, he highlighted the great outcome of this field visit in exchanging experiences, sharing research outcomes, and training and qualifying the students.
