The Colleges of Engineering and Computers in Al-Leith held a course entitled "Design Thinking" in cooperation with the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Umm Al-Qura University. The course was presented by Dr. Wajdi Qattan, an academic staff member at the Institute, and was held at the headquarters of the Entrepreneurship Council in the College.

The Design Thinking course, which was attended by 50 academic staff members, employees, and students, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of design thinking in developing the product or service innovation.

The course discussed the difference between creativity and innovation, the design thinking methodology, and the empathy map, in addition to the way to build a prototype and conduct the design thinking process.

It is worth noting that the Council of Entrepreneurship at the Colleges of Engineering and Computers in Al-Leith is currently working on programs, projects, and research activities to promote the culture of design thinking to provide the participants with a deep understanding of the principles and processes of design thinking. They also aim to familiarize the participants with the ways to apply its methodology and harness its tools to generate creative ideas, and use these methodologies to build applicable work strategies. Additionally, they aim to instruct participants on the five stages of the design thinking process, their benefits, and frameworks. The course employed the design thinking methodology in developing interactive scientific exhibitions, which start with the ‘Ideation’ stage, followed by the ‘Research’ stage, then the ‘Prototyping’ stage, followed by the ‘Exhibition’ stage, and concluding with the ‘Evaluation’ stage.
