The College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies, represented by the Department of Shari`ah, organized a workshop on "Characteristics of the Jurisprudent", in cooperation with the Saudi Fiqh Society representative in Umm Al-Qura University. The workshop was held on Wednesday, 2 Rajab 1441 A.H., in King Abdul، Aziz Historical Hall.
The activities started with the recitation of some verses from the glorious Qur’an. Next, Prof. Muhammad Al-Sawat addressed the workshop and welcomed the UQU President, as well as Sheikh Abdullah Al-Khunain, the eminent scholars, and the noble audience. He extended his thanks to the College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies for its cooperation with the Saudi Fiqh Society which yielded this blessed workshop. Moreover, he praised the efforts exerted by the Head of the Department of Shari`ah to serve knowledge and its seekers, and his follow up and keenness in organizing this workshop.
After this, the Head of the Department of Shari`ah, Dr. Khalid Al-Jirisi, welcomed Sheikh Abdullah Al-Khunain, and expressed his thanks to His Excellency the UQU President and the Dean of the College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies for their keenness in organizing scientific seminars and workshops, which have similar importance to the summer classes of the male and female students. He said that one of the top priorities of the College of Shari`ah is to organize scientific activities which contribute to developing and boosting students' skills.
In his speech, the Dean of the College, Dr Raed Al-Usaimi, highlighted the keenness of the university leadership in sponsoring and supporting such activities, and referred to the keenness of the college in this regard. He extended his thanks to the UQU President, the Head of the Department of Shari`ah, and the representative of the Saudi Fiqh Society for organizing this important workshop, presented by His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah bin Khunain, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, welcoming him to Umm Al-Qura University.
After that, Sheikh Al-Khunain started the workshop by explaining the importance of the characteristics of the jurisprudent and the stages he must pass through to become a qualified jurisprudent. He mentioned that there are innate and acquired characteristics that a jurisprudent must have, which are interconnected and coherent, and complete each other, giving precise details about them. Wrapping up his speech, he explained the importance of acquiring sound jurisprudential skills, and how to develop these skills for them to become a natural habit. He also referred to the significance of recording and reviewing knowledge.
The workshop was attended by the UQU President, a number of eminent scholars, and the academic staff, and was transmitted via closed-circuit television to Al-Jawharah Hall in the female student section in Al-Zahir.
