Umm Al-Qura University Adopts a Preventive Operational Plan to Deal with ‘Coronavirus’

His Excellency the UQU President, Dr. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, adopted an emergency action plan to prevent infection with Coronavirus. This took place during the meeting of the established committee, chaired by the Supervisor of the Work of the Vice Presidency for Branches, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hazimi. The members of the committee include: the Supervisor of the Work of the UQU Vice Presidency for Educational Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Babalghaith, the UQU Vice President for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah Al-Khuli, the deans of medical colleges, and representatives from the relevant executive centers and departments.

The Head of the Operational Emergency Plan, Dr. Al-Hazmi, stated that the Coronavirus preventive plan included 4 phases. The first was establishing a control center to receive any reports about suspected cases. The second was identifying the methods of prevention and the necessary procedures that should be followed to ensure that the disease does not spread, if a case is confirmed within the university. The third is specifying the appropriate isolation and quarantine areas, in coordination with the relevant authorities. The fourth is the sterilization of the university's facilities and taking the required precautions.

The Director of the University Medical Center, Dr. Yassir Bahakim, explained that precautionary measures had been established to deal with suspected cases of Coronavirus at the University Medical Center, according to the updated guidelines for diagnosing and preventing the spread of the infection issued by the Ministry of Health.

Finally, he stressed that the University Medical Center adopted five operational procedures, emanating from the university's plan to prevent infection with Coronavirus, including providing a reception station, respiratory screening, isolation room, site clearance, as well as promotion of awareness and education.
