The academic staff members of the English Language Center at Umm Al-Qura University agree on the importance of the role played by the English language course for all the UQU female students of various academic disciplines. As an initiative to keep abreast of the latest developments in education and student self-assessment and to also encourage the students to use the English language in various areas of their lives, a series of interactive activities have been carried out to motivate the students to rely on themselves in acquiring English language skills, such as speaking and writing. Under the supervision of Her Excellency the Deputy Director of the English Language Center, Dr. Sahar Matar Al-Zahrani, Ms. Ghaida Hasanain Felemban carried out these activities during the first semester of the academic year 1440/1441 A.H. in an integrative way throughout the semester. Activities included reading, writing, and presenting simplified English content on different food cultures in a number of countries by creating engaging presentations and using a number of interesting and useful sources as reference.
On the other hand, the interactive activities also aimed to promote teamwork among the students, harness their research skills, and enhance their presentation skills to create and design engaging presentations. At the end, the activities were concluded with an end-of-semester project, which is an integrated presentation about the most popular traditional meals in some countries of the world, including information on their history, ingredients, and cooking techniques.
