Out of its participation in raising awareness among the different sectors of the community about the ways of protection against diseases and safeguarding the health of its individuals to achieve the center's mission of effective community partnership, a medical team from among the female affiliates of the University Medical Center visited the fourth female secondary school in Makkah Al-Mukarramah on Monday, 29 Safar, 1441 A.H. This event was conducted within the Early Detection of Breast Cancer Campaign under the slogan, "Do not Wait for Symptoms ... Have a Checkup Now". Breast cancer is considered to be the most rampant type of cancer among women in the Saudi Kingdom. This campaign coincided with the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month (the Pink Month), which is held annually in October.
The visit included an educative lecture on breast cancer (prevention, risk factors, remedy, self-examination) and an introductory lecture on (preventive nutrition against breast cancer, and examples of palpable breast mass). This was in addition to infographic designs that point out that one from among eight women are vulnerable to breast cancer.
At the end of the visit, the team distributed some gifts and educative brochures among all affiliates and students of the school.
