UQU VP Launches Events Marking World Diabetes Day; Inspects Medical Services

Vice-President of Umm Al Qura University (UQU) Dr. Yasser bin Sulleiman Shosho has given the green light for marking the World Diabetes Day (WDD) – observed on November 14 each year - which was organized by the University Medical Center in Aziziyah under the theme "Eyes on Diabetes".

The celebration was attended by Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Thamir bin Hamdan al-Harbi, Head of the University Medical Center Dr. Yasser bin Hassan Bahakim and Assistant Director of the Center Mr. Samir Banjar.

During the event, Dr. Shosho was briefed about the activities and listened to a detailed explanation from Lab Expert Saleh Bajamal. He talked awareness and practical activities that take place while measuring sugar levels in blood for one-day outpatients in addition to the illustrative-based health education using murals, brochures, CDs and TV screens in order to give details about the diabetic, diet, latest updates of the disease and means of protection.

In the same time, the VP looked over medical services provided at the drug store where men and women are separated and a separate space for women was dedicated. Also, he inspected the men sample room at the lab.

Dr. Shosho visited new dental clinics that were built to make the number of clinics reaches six. In addition, he previewed the 3d panorama scan device which was recently provided.

He inspected the main blood and hormone test devices at the lab's extension that would be moved to a unit at the lab's branch at the Undergraduate Studies Deanship in Al Zaher.

Dr. Shosho asserted the UQU's determination to care for the university medical services, to upgrade supplies, cadres and education programs.

The center provides services for more than 100,000 employees and their families according to the 1437H statistics, he said, lauding University President's support to the center and extending thanks to Dr. Bahakim and employees for their efforts to improve the quality of services. He urged them to continue and exert more efforts in this regard.

In return, Dr. Bahakim asserted that the health education is the foundation of prevention measures to avoid infection. The center is keen on promoting preventive programs and providing the best tools of education for its employees and families by commemorating the international days.

He added this year's events focused on two main principles: the attentive diagnosis and the type 2 diabetes testing to control complications in addition to the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes complications which is the most important step to develop a plan for medication.

He lauded support shown by President of Umm Al Qura University and extended thanks to Vice-President Dr. Yasser bin Sulleiman Shosho for heeding to the activities organized by the center.
