Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Dr. Adnan bin Nuri Al-Harbi, the college, represented by the Vice Deanship of Educational Affairs, held an introductory meeting for the new male and female students in the presence of the vice deans, the heads of the departments, and some members of the academic staff.
The ceremony started with a recitation of the Noble Qur'an, followed by a speech by Dr. Adnan Al-Harbi in which he welcomed all the new students, and urged them to show diligence and perseverance in their studies and work.
He was followed by the Vice Dean of the College for Educational Affairs, Dr. Nasir bin Awad bin Saleh Al-Zahrani, who turned the new students' attention to the importance of learning about the symbols and indications of the grades. He pointed out the importance of complying to the study plan, being one of the important factors which help students graduate at the specified time. He also recommended students to read and refer to the Bylaws and Regulations.
After that, the representative of the Department of Social Work, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Awad, presented the vision, mission and organizational structure of the department, as well as the programs offered and the department's plan. He also referred to the availability of optional hours in the set study plan in which students can select what they deem appropriate within the set hours in the study plan.
The representative of the Department of Media, Hilail bin Mihaisin Seraj Al-Umairi, gave a speech in which he explained the regular study system in the department. He said they begin with the general courses before moving to the specialization phase in which the student selects one of the specializations available in the department, which include: journalism, public relations, and radio and TV. He indicated the importance of attending the lectures, and that being absent results in many negative impacts on the educational process and the adherence of the student to the set plan.
The Head of the Department of Geography, Dr. Abdullah bin Faisal Al-Baqari Al-Qurashi, spoke about the establishment of the department. He mentioned that it is one of the oldest departments in UQU, as it was, in the past, one of the departments of the College of Education. He then explained the study system in the Department of Geography and the programs offered, and also presented detailed information about the geographic information systems and remote sensing. Moreover, he explained the importance of analyzing and discovering the geographic phenomena and the changes that happened in different periods of time.
On his part, the Head of the English Language Department, Ali bin Hassan Abu Al-Reesh, delivered a speech in which he referred to the importance of reviewing the e-services and the technologies offered by the university that facilitate the educational process, and the importance of using them and benefiting from them.
After that, the representative of the colleges received and answered questions and inquiries from the students. At the conclusion of the event, the prizes of the College of Social Sciences were drawn, and the audience expressed their admiration of the meeting.
