His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, the President of Umm Al-Qura University, received the report of the scientific and training courses that were held by the Institute of Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers during the summer of 1440 A.H. for 39 Arabic instructors from Indonesia and Senegal. The UQU President watched a presentation on the concluded course in the presence of the Dean of the Institute, Dr. Hasan Bukhari, the institute's vice deans and the training program's supervisors, at his office in Al-Abdiyyah.
Dr. Hasan Bukhari clarified that the program was implemented according the approval of His Majesty the Saudi King to hold training courses for the Arabic language teachers at different universities and institutes in Indonesia and Senegal. The program was held from 10 Shawwal, 1440 A.H. to 27 Dhul-Qi`dah, 1440 A.H. with the participation on 39 teachers from the two countries. Dr. Hasan pointed out that the aim of implementing this program was to serve the Arabic language and pay attention to its instructors, providing them with many scientific skills that enable them to perform their educational mission in their countries, and also to enhance the sound approach of the Islamic culture.
He said that the trainees spent about 125 training hours during the training program, covering 13 packages during which they were trained on the skills of teaching conversation, listening, reading, writing, linguistic phrases and vocabulary, as well as building and developing the curricula for teaching the Arabic language, using technology for teaching languages, and language exams. This was in addition to the packages of Qur'an exegesis (tafsir) and Qur'an sciences, Hadith and its sciences, contemporary intellectual and jurisprudential doctrines, the special features of the Islamic Shari`ah, and skills in dealing with others. The cultural program associated with the courses included a visit to Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, cultural and recreational trips to Al-Shafa and Jeddah, field tours of the holy sites in Makkah and its historical landmarks, and visits to the Two Holy Mosques and their field management. Moreover, the cultural program included meetings with public figures and visits to official bodies, such as meetings with Their Eminences the imams and Mu’azzins (callers to Prayer) of the Holy Mosque in Makkah, and visits to the Kiswa Factory of the Holy Ka`bah, Zamzam Water Packing Factory, the Al-Haramain Train station, and a number of associations, institutions, and projects. These visits were made in order to let the teachers learn about an aspect of the civilizational advancement of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the strenuous efforts it exerts to take care of the Two Holy Mosques and to serve their visitors.
His Excellency Prof. Abdullah Bafail praised the support given by the wise leadership, may Allah safeguard them, in hosting the scholarship students and teaching them the principles of the Arabic language and the Islamic Shari`ah sciences in order for them to be ambassadors of the language of the Holy Qur'an in their countries. His Excellency is keen to hold the training courses throughout the year to different countries, in addition to increasing the number of trainees. Moreover, he highlighted the support and attention given by His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad Al Al-Sheikh, in implementing this program, praising the efforts of the institute's dean, vice deans and all the employees working on the implementation of this program for it to be presented in a manner that befits the educational standing of UQU.
