On Wednesday 12 Sha`ban 1440 A.H., the Deanship of Scientific Research, represented by the Vice Deanship of Research Centers and Groups, held a workshop to discuss the research proposals about the history of Al-Juhfah village. The workshop was attended by more than 30 researchers from all the relevant fields, including history, geography, Islamic studies, medicine, biology, and other specialties.
The workshop, which was presented by Prof. Adnan Muhammad Al-Shareef Al-Harthi, began with a brief presentation about Al-Juhfah village's location, borders, and status. The former Head of the Department of History and the Vice Dean of College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies for Training and Community Service, His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sulami, reviewed the aspects of Al-Juhfah's history that can be discussed to develop the region and be used in historical tourism.
This was followed by research presented by Associate Professor in the Department of Arabic Language Teaching at the Arabic Language Institute for Non-native Speakers, Dr. Amira bint Ali As-Sa`idi, entitled "Al-Juhfah in the Prophetic Sunnah: Status, Importance, and Problem." Professor of Geography, Zain Al-Jumai`, submitted a proposal about the natural components of the area, the study of the population of the area, and exploitation of the natural and human resources in environmental tourism investment. The Head of the Department of Tourism and Hotels, Dr. Ali Al-Qasim, discussed the concept and elements of tourism and how to make use of the region's historical monuments by maintaining and marketing them.
Professor of Clothing History and Embroidery at the College of Design, Dr. Rabaa bint Salem Sajini, referred to the importance of studying the social, custom, crafts, decorations, and traditional clothing aspects of the Al-Juhfah area. She also proposed establishing a tourism museum including the daily life of the region. Professor of plant biology, Maha Al-Jabri, proposed studying the soil and vegetation, an assessment of the impacts of biodiversity on the geographical terrain, giving the needed care to the soil treatment to increase its fertility, and turning it into a proper area for planting and grazing.
While the Professor of Community Medicine and Health Care at the College of Medicine, Dr. Nahlaa Hashem Hariri, pointed out the importance of studying a sample of the population of Miqat Al-Juhfah (a descriptive survey study) and defining the demographic features of the region's population, the health level, and the factors affecting it. Wrapping up the workshop, Prof. Muhammad Idris reviewed the urban and engineering areas with a view to developing the region and turning it into an archaeological tourist site due to its importance from the era of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the present day.
