On Tuesday 18 Rajab 1440 A.H., the Deanship of Scientific Research held a workshop to discuss the research priorities of Umm Al-Qura University in preparation for the launch of the new session of the research grant projects and to activate the requirements of academic accreditation for the scientific research standard.

The workshop was delivered by His Excellency the Dean of Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Ahdal, in the presence of the male and female vice deans of postgraduate studies and scientific research in the different colleges. Dr. Al-Ahdal discussed the themes of the university's strategic plan and the pillars of Saudi Vision 2030, which are considered the pivot of the university's research priorities that go in line with the needs of the Makkah region.

He reviewed samples of the research priorities in several Saudi universities, including King Saud University, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, Jazan University, and Majmaah University, to benefit from the experiences of these universities in setting specialized research tracks and creating a UQU identity in line with the research strength of the UQU researchers.

The deanship also produced a questionnaire to gauge the opinions of more than 200 participants in suggested research priorities. The results of the questionnaire were presented to the workshop to reach research priorities, including the different fields and themes and achieving the university's vision and mission.
