The College of Engineering and the College of Computing in Al-Qunfudhah organized a lecture on Tuesday, 5 Rajab, 1440 A.H., entitled: "Social Engineering in Cybersecurity". The lecture was held at the theater of Al-Qunfudhah University College and was delivered by Dr. Khalid bin Ali Al-Marhabi, an academic staff member, the Vice Dean of the College for Development and Entrepreneurship and a specialist researcher in cybersecurity and its applications.

The lecture aimed to educate the user in the ways and methods of protecting information against one of the gravest perils, whether it was caused by a direct human error or a malicious program such as viruses, and was deliberate or accidental.

The lecture addressed several topics, the most important of which were the following: the definition of information security and cybersecurity and the differences between them, types of cyber attacks, the definition of social engineering and its importance, aspects of social engineering attacks, and how attacks are carried out using social engineering techniques.

At the conclusion of the lecture, the attendants exchanged discussions about their personal experience and expertise in this area and the social engineering threats they received, followed by a delineation of the protection mechanism against social engineering attacks.

The lecture was followed up with a recap by His Excellency Dr. Jabir bin Sa`id Al-Zahrani, the Dean of the College of Engineering and the College of Computing in Al-Qunfudhah, as part of the commendable efforts exerted to disseminate the e-learning culture, being one of the most important objectives of Umm Al-Qura University, and to keep pace with the state's vision in developing education.
