The Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Umm Al-Qura University, organized the ‘Diabetes Protection Day’ event in Makkah Mall on Thursday, Rabī` al-Ākhir 25, 1437 Hijri, February 4, 2016. The event was supported by the University President and was attended by the Head of the Deanship for Students Affairs, Dr. Amr El-Saqaf and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Ashi, under the auspice of Society Service Unit.
The event aimed at spreading awareness of diabetes for protection from it, and spreading the culture of “Prevention is better than cure” as well as training the Faculty students to carry out their duty towards their society, promote health of individuals and activate their professional role in serving the society.
The event, that witnessed the participation of the Dean, 60 of the Faculty personnel; including 25 of the faculty staff and 25 students from different programs; included testing blood glucose levels, measuring blood pressure and measuring fats ratio. It also included a survey for identifying the factors that lead to the rise of diabetics rate in Mecca as well as personalized advice based on the diagnosis and the lifestyle study and explaining how can following rituals of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) help in the protection. Students also provided medical and nutritional instructions for visitors and distributed many brochures, posters, pamphlets and booklets.
