علاج عصب وجذور الأسنان هو تخصص دقيق في مجال العلاج التحفظي في طب الأسنان والذي يركز على علم أنسجة وأمراض لب وعصب الأسنان والأنسجة المحيطة بالجذور. يقدم قسم العلاج التحفظي في كلية طب الأسنان بجامعة أم القرى للمتدربين تدريبًا شاملاً ومكثفًا في علاج عصب و جذور الأسنان، ويشتمل التدريب السريري على تعليم نظري و تدريب سريري و تدريب بحثي أكاديمي على مستوى عال من المهنية والاحترافية في مجال علاج عصب و جذور الأسنان المجهري (غير الجراحي و الجراحي)، تحت إشراف نخبة من أعضاء هيئة التدريس الحاصلين على شهادات التدريب الإكلينيكية المتقدمة في علاج عصب و جذور الأسنان المجهري بالإضافة إلى درجة الماجستير و الدكتوراه  من مختلف الدول الرائدة في مجال التخصص مثل: أمريكا و بريطانيا و السويد وهونغ كونغ. يركز البرنامج على التدريب والعمل على فهم واستيعاب العلوم الأساسية والطبية وأحدث التقنيات الرقمية ذات الصلة بمجال التخصص، مما يضمن الكفاءة في المهارات السريرية للمتدربين. كما يوفر البرنامج فرص للمشاركة في العلاج الشمولي المتقدم لإعادة تأهيل صحة الفم والأسنان في طب وجراحة الأسنان.

كما يؤصل البرنامج ضرورة مشاركة جميع المتدربين في المعايير الأكاديمية التي تعرّفهم على تطور النظريات والممارسات القائمة على الأدلة والبراهين في علاج عصب وجذور الأسنان.

يركز برنامج الزمالة الطبية في علاج عصب وجذور الأسنان على التدريب والمشاركة بالأبحاث العلمية والسريرية ودمجها بالخبرات العملية. وتشتمل محاور الأبحاث وموضوعاتها على:

• أبحاث النتائج السريرية باستخدام الأشعة المقطعية.

• أحدث التقنيات علاج عصب وجذور الأسنان التجديدي.

• المواد الحيوية واستخداماتها في علاج عصب وجذور الأسنان والأنسجة بها.

• وغيرها من الأبحاث.

يهدف برنامج الزمالة الطبية في علاج عصب وجذور الأسنان إلى وصول المتدربين لأعلى معايير الكفاءة الإكلينيكية والعلمية في مجال تخصص علاج جذور الأسنان والتي تمكنه من:

- أن يكون قادرا على تشخيص وعلاج المشاكل المعقدة في علاج عصب وجذور الأسنان بشكل مستقل، بالاعتماد على الفهم الشامل للجوانب السريرية والنظرية للتخصص، ومهارات التفكير النقدي في تحليل المشكلة للمريض بناءً على مبادئ طب الأسنان المبنية على الأدلة والبراهين.

- اكتساب المعرفة والمهارات اللازمة للتصنيف كاستشاري من الهيئة السعودية للتخصصات الصحية بعد التخرج من البرنامج.

- المشاركة في المؤتمرات والجمعيات المحلية والإقليمية والدولية في مجال طب الأسنان بصفة عامة، وتخصص علاج جذور الأسنان بصفة خاصة.

Fellowship Program (FP) in Endodontics

Endodontology is the area of dentistry focused on the biology, physiology, pathology, and management of the dental pulp and periradicular tissues. The Restorative Department at Umm Al-Qura University's College of Dental Medicine offers trainees thorough and intensive training in clinical endodontics, supervised clinical training encompasses both surgical and nonsurgical endodontics, along with relevant basic and medical sciences, ensuring clinical proficiency in these areas. Extensive opportunities exist for combined treatment of endodontic-periodontic problems and for endodontic management of teeth involved in major oral rehabilitative procedures.

All trainees are required to be ready to engage with the academic standards that introduce them to the evolution of endodontic theory and practice  , as well as an evidence-based methodology that allows for a thoughtful assessment of present and upcoming technologies and materials.

The fellowship prioritizes the integration of research within their clinical education. Research topics encompass clinical outcome research utilizing cone beam CT, regenerative endodontics, dental stem cell biology, and tissue engineering, among others.

Learning Outcomes

Trainees will:

• Have the ability to practice endodontics independently, drawing on a comprehensive understanding of the clinical, theoretical aspects of the specialty, and critical thinking skills in the analysis of patient situations base on  the principles of evidence-based dentistry (EBD), is essential for dental professionals to be competent in their clinical practice.

• Demonstrates an advanced understanding of biomaterial sciences, encompassing both laboratory and clinical methodologies, as well as their practical implementation within a clinical setting.

• Acquire the knowledge and skills for dental professionals to be adept at accessing dental scientific literature in order to uphold contemporary professional knowledge and to critically evaluate new dental products and procedures.

• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for healthcare professionals to recognize the appropriate circumstances in which to recommend a second opinion, referral, and/or interdisciplinary care.

• Participate in local, regional, national, and international organizations that advocate for the field of dentistry as a whole, with a specific emphasis on the discipline of Endodontics.

This course is designed to provide the trainee with the basic principles of knowledge and skills related to Oral Sciences. It is a required course within the first year of all postgraduate fellowship programs in college of Dentistry.

• Research Methods in Dentistry:

This course delivers an advance material to dental research for the trainee to be able to read, perform, write research proposal and article manuscript, while maintaining the ethical considerations, and providing critical appraisal to scientific information.

• Fundamental of restorative dentistry & Biomaterial science:

This course is taught to trainees in the first year. It is an integrated course including fundamentals of restorative dentistry, cariology, dental biomaterials and dental pain management.

The intention of this course is let the senior trainees to collect and formulate a high quality approved research in endodontics, and related fields. It is designed as a requirement to have the fellowship degree in endodontics.
