Automatic OCR System for Arabic Historical Manuscripts Using Deep Learning and Image Processing Techniques

CCOMP-CEN-MAY2024M-01

Abstract:Historical Arabic manuscripts are important for preserving and understanding past civilizations. They provide insights into various aspects of ancient societies. However- these manuscripts are often in non-editable formats- making them challenging for scholars and researchers. A text recognition system is proposed to automate text extraction from these manuscripts to address this issue. The system uses the Seam carving algorithm to segment pages into lines and words- and the CNN-RNN-CTC model for word recognition. The system achieved a character error rate (CER) of 51% for line images and a CER of 20% and word error rate (WER) of 54% for word images- surpassing all existing systems.

Rescue Bracelet

CCOMP-CEN-NOV2023M-05

Abstract:My colleague and I propose a solution to address the issue of children being left unattended on school buses, which, although uncommon, unfortunately occurs with some frequency. Our suggestion involves the implementation of a GPS-enabled rescue bracelet that would establish a connection between the child and their parents. Additionally, we propose the installation of an RFID sensor on the bus doors to track the entry and exit of children, and the inclusion of an emergency button to provide immediate assistance when needed.

Face Recognition Attendance

CCOMP-CEN-2023M-03

Abstract:In today's networked world- the mobile phone plays a very important role- it affects all aspects of human daily life. The need to maintain the security of information in a mobile device is becoming both increasingly important and increasingly difficult. Some human features like fingerprints- face- hand geometry- voice- and iris are used to provide authentication for security systems to reach high-security levels instead of traditional password-based systems. The proposed project uses face recognition to do a smart attendance process by building a mobile application using flutter language which has been supported by Google and using ML Kit (Machine Learning Kit). ML Kit is a mobile SDK that brings Google's machine learning expertise to Android and iOS apps in a powerful yet easy-to-use package.

Network Servers and Switches (9300) Installation and Configuration

CCOMP-CEN-2023M-10

Abstract:Networking is a must for professional success because an expanding business network will provide inside information about events within a company. The professional world is a labyrinth with many intersecting roads. Each of us needs some kind of support at some point- and it is networking that offers an individual this opportunity. Professional networking has become very important because it helps form numerous relationships that can easily lead to opportunities in your field. One of the significant benefits of networking is that it offers job opportunities that you may not get through just your CV or interview. Networking is as important in the workplace as it is in the outside world. A person needs to connect with other employees- colleagues- and senior staff members in the workplace to maintain healthy relationships. Networking will help us in the onboarding process and ease our way in the days to come. If we have established ourselves in the workplace- networking will help us in our future relationships. The project will mainly cover the replacement of the old network servers in the Taif overhead basement with new network servers and the network configuration in the buildings and will prepare the configuration of the 9300-network server and switches. The decline of digital is changing the way we think about our networks. Whether for customers or employees- "experience" has become a strategic need. The Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Fixed Access Switch is designed to help you transform your network from a connectivity platform to a service platform.

Flying Coffee

CCOMP-CEN-2022M-08

Abstract:At present- the demand for on-demand meal delivery is increasing- and the main delivery pattern is rider delivery. However- rider delivery has certain problems in terms of timeliness and security. Due to its advantages of being fast- convenient- and safe- drone delivery can- to a certain extent- solve the problems of rider delivery. However- can drone delivery completely replace rider delivery? The paper mainly uses the prospect theory to discuss the conditions under which drone delivery is superior to rider delivery based on four factors: delivery distance- degree of rider delay- pickup time- and consumer attitudes towards drone delivery. Based on the research- it was found that when the delivery distance is more than 7 kilometers- the pickup time is within 2 minutes- or when consumers accept drone delivery- drone delivery is better than rider delivery. When the rider s delay caused the delivery time to increase by more than 20%- the advantages of drone delivery began to stand out. Moreover- research has proven that drone delivery will help expand the scope of instant delivery- and the rational layout of drone airports and strengthening of consumer awareness and friendliness towards drone delivery will also help promote the development of drone delivery.

Towards Hajj and Umrah Digital Transformation using Smartwatches (Daqiqah)

CCOMP-CEN-2022M-10

Abstract:Many of us now rely on smartwatches as an integral part of our lives. With a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.6%- the smartwatch market has become one of the world s most popular and best-selling markets. They have been used in various fields like health and sports. They have valuable features that assist people in their daily lives. With Hajj and Umrah undergoing digital transformation- smartwatches can be used to enhance pilgrims experience during the sacred rituals. NUSK is a smartwatch launched by (SDAIA) last Hajj season to provide several services like displaying pilgrims information and health status- monitoring their health data- and requesting emergency medical or security assistance. It is vital to develop similar projects and build upon the success of NUSK. Hence- we use Bangle.js - an open-source (sw/hw) smartwatch- to present some Hajj and Umrah use cases that will help achieve our country s ambitious vision towards Hajj and Umrah digital transformation. We also propose incorporating Bangle.js into the labs of microprocessor courses at Saudi Computer Colleges to allow students to broaden their skills- abilities- and thinking towards real-life applications facilitating digital transformation.

Sign Language Interpreter

CCOMP-CEN-2022M-11

Abstract:This document is a research report for the final year Capstone project with all of its associating requirements. This project is a completed mobile app program that helps understand and interpret signed speech in real-time. For the goal of making reciprocal communication possible- reliable and convenient. The need comes from the wide variety of disabilities afflicting a wide range of people. The disabilities vary from generic to acquired through injuries- the result of these disabilities is the lack of ability to communicate orally. Thus- requiring signed speech to be used. Therefore- we require a reciprocal signed/oral communication channel to solve the issue. Our app helps act as that channel. The way it works is it immediately tracks for signed speech upon start-up- if available it interprets it in real-time with no latency and displays the result.

Real time People Counting System

CCOMP-CEN-2022M-12

Abstract:Due to Covid-19- the government issued some regulations on how to limit the spread of the virus in the kingdom. One of those regulations is the maximum number of people allowed in public enclosed facilities to prevent over-crowding. However- the current method detects cases of overcrowding manually i.e.- the ministry of health and the municipality have to make continuous or random inspections on every establishment. Our project aims to help with monitoring and counting the number of people present in the enclosed facility using low-cost sensors then alert the cases of over-crowding to the responsible governmental entities. Our idea is to detect the expected number of people inside closed rooms (conference- business stores- ..etc.) by a combination of cheap technologies (monitoring level of Co2 using dedicated sensors and Laser sensors- Wifi module to send data to a mobile web interface to display ressults). The Co2 sensors monitor the level of Co2 based on the existing numbers of people and the Laser counts how many number of people already get in or get out of the room. In theory- the Arduino should be able to receive data from these devices- make the required analysis of this information and come up with an accurate estimation of how many people are present in the facility at any given time. Therefore- it can trigger an alarm signal if the number exceeds the allowed limit and even communicate this signal to the responsible entities.

Obstacle Avoiding Robot Car

CCOMP-CEN-2022M-18

Abstract:This project involves the design of an intelligent obstacle-avoiding robot car and its implementation. The objective of this project is to implement a robot car- which while moving should have the ability to detect obstacles in its path and change direction where obstacles are present without any form of external influence. The new direction to be taken to avoid collision is the direction that has the most distance between the obstacle and the sensor and this is determined by the robot based on sensor inputs.

BUILD A GIANT LED PIXEL DISPLAY USING ARDUINO

CCOMP-CEN-2022M-20

Abstract:Lighting in our life considers being one of the most important life activities. We see lights on the roads- markets- malls- schools- and offices almost everywhere. And all these lights just to light the place in the darkness- a big percentage consider being to be for directions or advertising. Some of these lights or what we call LED (Light-Emitting Diode) are used for special use and become widely used everywhere. One of the most seeing for this led come from the way it works and how and where it's connected- either alone or with objects or connected. When it's connected with the object- it works as an indicator to take attention- like blinking- or it's on or off. For example- when the TV is connected to power there is a red LED turned on- so we can know the TV is connected to power and so on. In our project idea- we will build a giant LED pixel display that can be used to show special words all the time or used as advertising materials- to keep working in many ways all the time.

Air Pollution Measurement

CCOMP-CEN-2022M-21

Abstract:The air pollution sensor can be manufactured manually or buy advanced devices- but the majority focus on five components of ozone- particles- carbon monoxide- sulfur dioxide- and nitrous oxide. These devices were very expensive in the past- but now- with the great advancement in technology- there are many alternatives used. Air quality is measured by the air quality index or AQI. AQI works like a thermometer ranging from 0 to 500 degrees. Instead of showing changes in temperature- the Air Quality Index is a way of showing changes in the amount of pollution in the air.

Solar Power-Based Smart Stick with GPS for Guiding Blind People

CCOMP-CEN-2019M-01

Abstract:Blind people have a different life than normal people. They depend on others for their movement, which may cause them to lose confidence in themselves. Also, because they cannot see, they face difficulties in detecting obstacles and dangers on their way while walking or moving around, which may put them at risk. In this project, we propose a smart stick system that aims for guiding and assisting blind people and enable them to identify the world around them. The proposed system work to detect obstacles and staircases using an ultrasonic sensor. It alerted blind people by vibration and sound if any object detected on the way through a vibration motor and buzzer and others will know if they are need help when the red LED is on. The system allows their families to track them easily anywhere anytime if they are lost via Global Positioning System (GPS). And for urgent, to communicate the blind person with his family, we added Global System for Mobile (GSM) so that if the person pressed a push button, a message will be sent to his family. We used solar power to ensure no power interruption and to use eco-friendly material. In our project, we seek to provide a smart stick that is capable of giving reassurance for blind people to move around alone without fear, a proper tool that's comfortable for them to use and affordable.

Bus Riding Management System using IR sensor - BRM

CCOMP-CEN-2019M-02

Abstract:It is our rights and duties as students of Umm Al-Qura University to serve pilgrims in different fields. Whether material or moral and as a principle for us as students in computer engineering at Umm Al-Qura University. It is a service that makes it easier for the pilgrims to choose the right bus for him and his family. One of the problems that we faced when the pilgrims ride the bus in the process of stampede among the pilgrims to ensure that they ride to the bus and this led to damage between the pilgrims and some of the injuries and other feelings such as anger, and anxiety, also know the conditions of the bus, and how the process of secretion Pilgrims and the movement between holy places and lack of some information for the officials. On the status of knowledge of the bus, the information on the bus almost non-existent, we tried to devise some solutions to reduce the problems resulting from this matter.

Abstract:College major affects one's the future career path. Commonly, many students choose their major based on subject they used to love in high school; However, they might excel more in other majors they have no knowledge about it. This paper proposes a new methodology for selecting disciplines based on phone information that changes traditional methods such as paper scale, to improve the result, shorten the time using the method. The data in this paper taken from a 12-week study involving 30 persons. We find that: (1) different phoneotypes features are related to choose college major; (2) phoneotypes features and demographics when joined created a prediction model with results capable of predicting choose college major in a better way than a demography-based model.
