Vice-Deanship for Academic Affairs

 

The Vice-Deanship for Academic Affairs is deemed to be one of the key pillars of the Nursing Colleges. It plays a paramount role in realizing the college's objectives. It has always shown keen interest in doing its job in a professional, institutional manner, such that promotes teamwork, and fuels innovation, development, creativity and initiative.
It has also taken as its main focus fulfilling the academic accreditation requirements and criteria related to leaning and education. This has always served as the hardcore of all the activities and endeavors of the vice-deanship, and the compass directing it in all dealings with constant committees.
The development of curricula and study plans is currently reckoned the first and foremost priority for the vice-deanship, with a view to achieve excellence in learning and education. That is to be added to developing the academic advising methods and approaches, in a way that allows students to study in line with the internationally approved scientific standards, as well as develop cultivate in students, within the framework of disciplined academic freedom.
By and large, the Vice-Deanship of Nursing for Academic Affairs concentrates its efforts in realizing the university's ultimate objective: to satisfy the knowledge community's needs, with unstinting, unceasing support from the UQU President. In doing so, the university leadership spares no effort to comply with the directives of the Saudi Government towards developing learning and education.
 

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Design the vice-deanship's strategic plan in a manner commensurate with the UQU strategic plan;
• Follow-up the college's annual executive plans, and the units under the vice-deanship;
• Regulate the relationship between the student, faculty member, the college, and the university;
• Measure the college's educational performance, depending on effective, clear-cut key performance indicators (KPIs);
• Conduct regular assessment of the college's programs, based on clear criteria;
• Boost the quality of learning and education;
• Determine the requirements and criteria necessary for designing study plans and programs, in line with the criteria put forth by the National Committee for Academic Assessment and Accreditation; 
• Study and assess study plans according to certain criteria and methods, and put forward recommendations to be accredited;
• Develop study plans and programs, and provide the necessary support for academic departments, so that they could develop high-quality study plans;
• Increase the efficiency of faculty members in designing study plans and programs; 
• Follow up and coordinate with the college's quality unit to fulfill all that's required to fulfill the learning and education criterion;
• Hone students' skills, and care for their educational and professional needs;
• Assess the services provided for students by the university sectors, and develop them;
• Anticipate students' future needs, as part of the university's vision and aspirations; 
• Enforce study regulations, laws and instructions, and make sure that they are strictly applied; 
• Review the equivalent certificates of transferred and re-enrolled students at the beginning of each semester, and oversee internal transfers from one department to another;
• Follow up listing and delisting of students;
• Oversee the educational workflow, and follow up performance of the academic departments of the college;
• Oversee preparation of study plans and schedules of academic departments, and coordinate with other colleges, in collaboration with the UQU Deanship of Admission, and the Study Plans Unit;
• Oversee equivalence of courses and certificates;
• Determine demands of the college's academic departments, in collaboration with other colleges as well as the UQU Vice-Presidency for Educational Affairs;
• Organize and activate the college's academic advising program;
• Oversee application of the regulations and instructions relating to admission, transfer from or to the college, or among the college departments;
• Organize, activate and oversee the orientation week of new students, as part of the induction program;
• Prepare the academic advising program for students, as well as setting its executive plans, and overseeing its implementation;
• Follow up preparation and equipping of classrooms and laboratories, and report their status to the college dean;
• Preside over the vice-deanships sub-units and committees, and submit their reports to the relevant bodies;
• Plan, prepare and carry out a rehabilitative program for underachieving students in all academic departments, and follow up compliance of the departments to that program; 
• Manage study postponement and withdrawal requests;
• Oversee preparation of banned students and graduates;
• Supervise the work of student committees, and non-academic activities;
• Prepare final exam tables, and oversee their implementation;
• Follow up students about to graduate, and hand over disclaimer forms to graduates; 
• Liaise with the college graduates who have set off their career, to follow up their professional performance, and benefit from their experiences; 
• Oversee recruitment of the college's faculty members; 
• Keep an eye on the college website, to follow up matters related to the Vice-Deanship for Academic Affairs and its subdivisions;
• Take up the tasks and responsibilities of the College Council Secretariat, and follw up implementation of the council's decisions;
• Regularly report to the college dean on the workflow at the vice-deanship's subdivisions, as well as the challenges they face, and the ways to overcome them; and
• Support the college deans with all proper plans and actions aimed to promote the level of learning and education at the college.
