Abstract

This research aimed to shed light on an aspect of rhetorical linguistic expression in the Holy Qur’an, through an inductive study that collects verses that express proximity and the like from distant times, and an analysis of those verses, to reach the intent of the Holy Qur’an in using this method. The research came with an introduction and a preface in which the definition of proximity in the language, along with an explanation of the meanings of proximity used in the Holy Qur’an, then four topics: The first topic: The Qur’an’s use of temporal proximity in its original meaning. The second topic: Verses in which distant and near times are expressed. The third topic: The benefits of expressing nearness and distance. The fourth topic: The impact of this Qur’anic expression on those who came after. The most prominent results are: 1) It has been proven through this research that one of the linguistic methods of the Holy Qur’an is to express something far away by something near, and the like. 2) It has been shown in this research that this method has benefits: such as shortening a person’s hope, motivating believers, encouraging them, giving them patience with what befalls them, not afflicting sinners, and other benefits. 3) By explaining this method, we respond to the suspicion of those who claim that the Qur’an expressed times as being near, but it became clear with time that they were far away. Among the most important recommendations: expanding the study of Qur’anic methods, especially those that may appear to be an area of rebuke for those who do not expand the study of the Holy Qur’an, the Arabic language, and their methods.
