The discriminative ability of intellectual humility and positivity between students with low and high academic quality of life among female university students

The present study aimed to examine the discriminant ability of both intellectual humility and positivity in predicting membership in two groups of female students (high and low academic quality of life). The study adopted a descriptive analytical comparative approach and was applied to a sample of approximately (205) university students, distributed into two groups according to their level of academic quality of life. To achieve the study objectives, the Intellectual Humility Scale (Leary et al., 2017), translated and adapted by the researcher, and the Positivity Scale (Caprara et al., 2012), adapted by Khayyat (2024), and the Academic Quality of Life Scale developed by (Allam et al., 2025) and adapted by the researcher were used. Data were analyzed using Discriminant Analysis, in addition to skewness and kurtosis tests to assess normality, Box's M test to examine the homogeneity of covariance matrices, and Cohen’s Kappa coefficient to verify classification accuracy. The results revealed a statistically significant discriminant function, where Wilks' Lambda was (0.675) at a significance level of (0.000). The canonical correlation coefficient reached (0.570), and the model explained approximately (32%) of the variance between the two groups. The findings also showed that positivity was the most influential variable in discriminating between the two groups, while intellectual humility had a limited contribution. The overall classification accuracy reached (76.2%), with stability confirmed through the cross-validation procedure. Additionally, Cohen’s Kappa value was (0.524), indicating a moderate level of agreement that supports the reliability of the model. Considering these findings, the study recommends enhancing positivity among university students due to its central role in improving academic quality of life and reconsidering the role of cognitive variables such as intellectual humility in different university contexts.
