Abstract
The study aimed to explore the differences between university students in Saudi Arabia and Egypt in terms of cyber space addiction and Cognitive Passionbased on the study variables (gender and age) and their interactions, as well as to examine the relationship between the two constructs, determine the predictive degree to achieve the study objectives. The study employed the Cyber Space Addiction Scale developed by Al-Osaimi (2019), and the Cognitive PassionScale developed by the researcher. The study was conducted on a sample of 859 male and female students from both countries, with 302 students from Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia and 557 students from Mansoura University in Egypt. The descriptive correlational method (comparative–predictive) was used. The study found significant differences between Saudi and Egyptian university students in cyber space addiction, favoring Saudi students. However, no significant differences were found between the two groups in epistemic passion. The results also showed significant gender-based differences in cyber space addiction in favor of females, while no significant age-based differences were found. In contrast, no gender-based differences were observed in epistemic passion, whereas age-based differences were found in favor of students under the age of 20 Moreover, the results indicated a weak and negative relationship between cyber space addiction and epistemic passion. It was also found that cyber space addiction is a weak predictor of epistemic passion, as evidenced by the coefficient of determination, which was 1% for the total score and 10% for the subdimensions.
