In the context of the department's pursuit of quality and academic accreditation for all study programs, and the requirements of the Saudi Vision 2030 to strive for excellence and improvement, making the outputs of the department compatible with the needs of the labor market, the Department of History, represented by the Postgraduate Studies Curriculum Committee, designed a comprehensive project for updating and developing study plans. The work was finished at the beginning of the academic year 1439 A.H./1440 A.H., and the completed project was submitted to the competent authorities at the university to take the necessary measures to implement it. After completing the formal procedures, the program was put into practice in 1441 A.H.

Program Objectives:

  1. Active participation in scientific research by offering postgraduate study programs that contribute to the research output of the society, and preparing researchers appropriately to enable them to perform innovative scientific research.
  2. Providing students with specialized knowledge and an understanding of history and archeology.
  3. Enhancing teaching and scientific research skills that enable the graduate to properly practice his specialization.
  4. Developing the graduate's leadership and professional capabilities.
  5. Familiarizing graduates with scientific research in the field of history, and its different approaches and methods.
  6. Producing research studies that are distinguished with quality, novelty and originality in the field of history and civilization in general, and in Saudi history, archeology and heritage in particular.
  7. Graduating scientific competencies in the field of specialization to meet the needs of society and provide them with job opportunities.
  8. Preparing academics specialized in history and culture for higher education. These academics should be scientifically and intellectually qualified.
  9. Promoting research activity for academic staff members.
