Emergency medical care is a considered a modern discipline in the field of health care. The need for this discipline aroused due to the scientific development in the life saving and rescue endeavors during disasters and accidents. It managed –by the will and guidance of Allah- to reduce mortality rate, and contributed to transferring the injured persons to the health care facility in a healthy position, which serves to continuing their rescue and treatment.

Thereupon, Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the college of Health Sciences and the Department of Emergency Medical Services, focused on and supported such rare specialties required to promote the health services market, as well as the national need for such a specialty. The department aims at providing educational training for emergency medical services professionals in order to provide the optimal level of emergency medical care.

Mission:

Training and rehabilitating national care paramedics to provide the highest level of service in the field of medical emergency.

Lifelong Evidence-based Learning: The department is committed to graduating efficient high-level scientific staff using lifelong evidence-based education as a means of learning and research, ensuring the provision of distinct emergency medical care and services based on the global moral basis to enhance the spirit of creativity.

Credibility and Accountability: The department is committed to setting clear standards governed by rules and laws to secure the health of the patient and the doctor's responsibility, thus reducing the risks and any medical negligence to ensure a comfortable safe environment that meets the needs and expectations of the beneficiaries.

Objectives:

  • Preparing the trainee- physically, mentally and psychologically - to provide timely emergency medical services to the citizens in medical emergency cases accurately and safely.
  • Teaching students emergency medical care in cases of accidents and disasters.
  • Having the ability to assess and act wisely, appropriately and swiftly to provide medical care to save lives, especially in cases where there is lack of communication with the medical officer.
