Academic Advisor Duties

  1. To be completely aware of the time schedule of course registration, postponement, and deletion dates announced by the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies. 
  2. To know the college’s academic plan and the student's graduation requirements and to make sure that the student's schedule is in accordance with the academic plan. 
  3. To prepare the academic advising record for each student, including a special file for each student, registered subjects with the grade level, cumulative average, the minutes of the periodic meetings between the advisor and the student, as well as any reports or notices issued by the course instructor to assess the level of the student. 
  4. To meet with the student at the beginning of every semester:
  • To learn about their performance in the previous semester. 
  • To urge students to exert much effort and excel in the next semester. 
  • To assist and guide students in registering courses and finding solutions in case of conflict. 
  • To follow up the academic regularity of students, and in case of non-attendance or low achievement level, the advisor should search for reasons and solutions and submit them to the administration of the department and college. 
  • To discover talented and distinguished students, encourage them to participate in local and international conferences and guide them on how to participate. 
  • To urge students to participate in postgraduate-related academic activities and events organized by the college or university. 
  • To dedicate office hours to discuss academic matters with students and guide them. 
  • To submit quarterly reports on the student's academic performance to the Academic Advising Unit, including the student's academic performance. 
  • To submit reports on the problems faced by the advisor during the advising process.

Student Duties

The students are the main ones who are responsible for their own academic performance, the advisor's role is only to guide and help the student to overcome the difficulties and problems that may face them.

The students are responsible for:

  • reading the unified regulation for postgraduate studies,and understanding the bylaws pertaining to postgraduate studies; 
  • being acquainted with the timetable of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies,and checking it each semester to know the dates of registration, postponement, and apology;
  • being punctual when meeting the academic advisor who is designated to each student by the department, and giving them all the information they need; 
  • carrying out the academic advisor's recommendations, according to the agreed-upon dates; 
  • and informing the advisor about any changes that may affect the student's program or educational performance.
