Academic Requirements for Registration for Summer Training
To qualify for the summer training course, the student should meet the following requirements:
- The student should not have been suspended from studying at the university.
- The student should have passed a number of courses, equivalent to at least 72 credit hours, which include the courses in the sixth level.
Training period:
The trainee student must spend 180 actual training hours at the training institution, with an average of (6) training hours per day.
Responsibilities and duties of the parties involved in summer training:
Summer training is a shared responsibility; its success depends on cooperation among the parties involved, including the following: student, training institution, academic department.
The responsibilities of each of the parties are as follows:
Responsibilities of the Student:
- Filling out the form (Summer Training Registration Form) during the period specified for registration (refer to the training committee in the department).
- The student has the right to apply for training in a specific institution from which he has received a training opportunity. The application shall be submitted to the head of the academic department for an opinion, who will, in turn, submit it to the training committee to approve or reject the request.
- The student is obliged to present himself to the training institution, and start practical training on time. The student is also obliged to perform all tasks and duties determined by the training institution.
- The student should maintain good behavior during the training period, and should adhere to the rules of the work at the institution where he is being trained, to show a good image of his university.
- The student should uphold the confidentiality of information disclosed to him by the training institution.
- The student should not miss training for any reason whatsoever. In the case of absence for a compelling excuse or an illness, the training institution should be informed immediately, as well as the academic supervisor.
- The student is not allowed to change the training institution, except when it is absolutely necessary, and after the approval of the academic supervisor and reporting the problems to the academic adviser during the training period.
- The student should submit a comprehensive final report at the beginning of the last week of training.
Responsibilities of the academic department:
- Appointing academic supervisors for trainee students.
- Communicating with the targeted training institutions to identify the training opportunities available to the students of the department.
- Forming committees to discuss reports submitted by the trainee student in the department.
- Approving the outcome of the discussion.
Responsibilities of the academic supervisor:
- Guiding the student to write his report in a sound scientific manner, taking into account the general specifications of the report.
- Continuously following the progress of the student, and keeping in touch with the field supervisor at the training institution.
Responsibilities of the field supervisor (the training institution):
The training institution, governmental or private, selected by the department shall implement the agreed training program, for all students enrolled in its training program, within the agreed period, commissioning a training supervisor and taking the following into account:
- A training supervisor should be assigned for one or more students to monitor their training, based on the approved plan.
- Addressing the problems and difficulties that may face the student's training plan.
- Writing a report for each trainee under his supervision, to be handed over to the academic supervisor at the department at the end of the training period, in a sealed envelope.
Important instructions:
(Change of training institution, absence, dropping out)
Changing the training institution:
- The student is not allowed to change the training institution after being placed therein. If it is found that the student's training program does not achieve the objectives required by the placement institution, he should quickly discuss the matter with the academic supervisor in order to correct the situation or to obtain the approval of the department to change the destination, if the problem proves insoluble.
- In case of receiving an approval to change the training institution, the student must provide a written message to the current destination apologizing for not continuing with the training and requesting its approval, before being directed to the new destination.
Absence Rules:
- The student is not allowed to leave the workplace during his working hours unless approved by the supervisor at the training institution.
- If the excused absence rate exceeds 25% of the number of training days, the trainee's case must be presented to the department. Accordingly, the student is given a "Denied" grade, and has to repeat the course.
Dropping out of training:
A student who is exposed to force majeure can drop out of the summer training course after being recommended to do so by the academic supervisor, to be approved by the Department of Chemistry. The training institution is to be notified, with an apology.
