The Department of Mathematics at Al-Leith University College held an activity for the department students entitled, “Some Mathematical Applications in Astronomy”, on Monday, 9 Sha`ban 1442 A.H., via the WebEx online platform. The activity was held under the supervision of the academic staff member in the department Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al-Hassani.

In the framework of encouraging the students and enabling them to achieve more excellence and innovation, the opportunity was given during the activity for department students to present a joint research work on a mathematics application in the field of astronomy. The research involved addressing the results of the scientist Johannes Kepler (1619 A.C.) related to the applications of the systems of linear equations in calculating the distances between some planets and the sun (astronomical units, AU) and their orbital periods (in terrestrial years).

At the conclusion of the activity, the opportunity was given to the attendees, including students and academic staff members, to raise questions and inquiries related to the topic of the research.
