The Department of Computer Science at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom nominated the doctoral dissertation submitted by Dr. Ghadir bint Reda Abdulaziz Kurdi for the CPHC/BCS Distinguished Dissertation Award. Dr. Ghadir is an academic staff member at the Joint First Year Deanship, who completed her PhD studies at the University of Manchester. During the PhD phase, a distinguished dissertation in the field of computer science, at the level of the United Kingdom, is selected.

Dr. Ghadir Kurdi's was nominated for this award after her doctoral dissertation, which was submitted in 2020 A.C., obtained the Steve Furber Medal. It is worth mentioning that the University of Manchester grants this medal to distinguished dissertations in the field of computer science.

The dissertation covers how to create exam questions and to expect the extent of their difficulty electronically, and also discusses how to explore texts in order to build the sources of knowledge used in creating the questions. The doctoral dissertation submitted by Dr. Ghadir Kurdi is considered to be the first 'alternative format dissertation' to obtain this medal. The Acting Dean of the Joint First Year, Dr. Azzah bint Muhammad Bannunah, indicated that the qualitative success achieved by the staff members of the deanship reflects the attention given in highlighting the scientific achievements of the Saudi scholarship students. Moreover, this reveals that these students submit outstanding scientific studies and research that promote the leading role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in different scientific fields. Dr. Azzah also expressed her thanks and gratitude to the wise leadership (may Allah support it) for the care provided to science and education, and the attention offered to the scholarship students. In addition, Dr. Azzah extended her thanks to Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the UQU President, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, for offering all possible means to help the UQU scholarship students complete their studies and return to the kingdom armed with knowledge. This is in order to benefit from them in fulfilling the aspirations of the wise leadership, which expects the youth to leave no stone unturned for the sake of this generous country.
