In continuation of the existing cooperation with the Department of Talented Students at the General Directorate of Education in the Makkah Region and keeping pace with the universities' plans to support talented students in public education, the student Juwen Yusuf Al-Suhufi, from Umm Salamah Secondary School for Talented Girls, qualified for the Ibdaa Science and Engineering Fair 2021 for her paper presented under the title: "Treating Cancer Cells with Laser Technology". The paper was written under the supervision of Dr. Basem Amr Refaat from the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Dr. Muhammad Salah from the Department of Physical Therapy, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Aslam, and Mr. Jawad.
The above-mentioned paper passed through a number of stages, which included visual presentations, refereeing, and an evaluation of the research content. It is one of the eight qualified research papers in the Makkah region.
This participation comes for the second year in a row to strengthen the role of the College of Applied Medical Sciences in supporting and caring for talented students. The student Nuran Husain Alim previously qualified for the ISEF Olympiad in the United States of America with scientific research under the supervision of a team from the Department of Laboratory Medicine, including Dr. Ramia Sindi, Dr. Heba Al-Masoum, and Dr. Amal Ezzat. Because of this work, Nuran won three awards and a scholarship from KAUST.
