Under the patronage of His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, the University Vice Presidency for Educational Affairs, represented by the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education, organized the ceremony for the Umm Al-Qura University E-Learning Award on Tuesday, 16 Rabi` Al-Thani, 1442 A.H., corresponding to 1 December, 2020 A.C. The ceremony was attended by the UQU President; the Vice President for Educational Affairs; the UQU Vice President; deans of the colleges, institutes, and supportive deanships; and academic staff members.

An introductory presentation was made to the audience on the nature of the award and its three categories, headed by the Excellence Award for the Optimal Use of E-Learning Systems at the level of the university colleges. The College of Engineering in Al-Qunfudhah won the first position out of 35 colleges at Umm Al-Qura University for this category.

The second category was the Excellence Award for the Optimal Use of E-Learning Systems at the level of the departments of Umm Al-Qura University. In this category, the Department of Construction Engineering and Department of Industrial Engineering at the College of Engineering in Al-Qunfudhah won the first and ninth positions, respectively, out of 186 academic departments at the level of Umm Al-Qura University.

The third category was the Excellence Award for the Optimal Use of E-Learning Systems at the level of the academic staff members at Umm Al-Qura University. It aims at encouraging academic staff members to participate with an e-course that is uploaded to the e-learning portal of the university. The two academic staff members at the Department of Construction, His Excellency Dr. Hussein Mahmoud and His Excellency Dr. Wael Qassem, won the sixth and eighth positions, respectively, for this category, out of 5087 academic staff members at the level of the university.

On his part, His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University praised the role of the Deanship of E-Learning, under the leadership of Dr. Khalid Al-Mutairi, in facilitating and simplifying educational materials, and its persistent efforts in promoting e-learning and enriching knowledge content in its various fields and sciences. This is for the students to enjoy these services in the light of the modern era which is witnessing great advancements in electronic services and systems.
