Dean of the College of Social Sciences Receives the Book: ‘Human Behavior and Social Environment’

Dr. Adnan bin Nuri Al-Harbi, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, received the book: "Human Behavior and Social Environment: Concepts, Theories, and Stages of Growth". This was during his meeting with the author of the book, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Awad, a member of the academic staff at the Department of Social Services, in His Excellency's Office at the university campus in Al-Abdiyyah.

Dr. Adnan Al-Harbi expressed his appreciation of the support and attention given by His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, the President of Umm Al-Qura University, to the diverse scientific productions of the academic staff members in the university. He pointed out that this step highlights the college's endeavors to confirm its research and academic mission as well as its community responsibility, which goes in line with the orientation of the Ministry of Education, to enhance its outputs in scientific research and production according to the vision of the Kingdom 2030, in order to serve the nation and society in social and humanitarian aspects.

The Dean of the College of Social Sciences urged the academic staff members to present ideas and initiatives in line with the college's plan, which is compatible with the university's strategies. He also wished Dr. Ahmad, the author of the book, further success in his future career.

The author of the book, Dr. Ahmad Awad, presented the content of his work, which includes one of the basic components of every personality "human behavior". The book reviews the basic concepts of the human behavior and social environment, analyzes the environmental determinants which play an important role in formation of human behavior, and focuses on the most important theories which explain human behavior and social environment. It also clarifies stages which man experiences in his development (from the embryonic stage to the stage of old age) and the behavioral features associated with each stage, and tackles prominent issues in each stage of growth, such as intelligence, violent behavior, smart devices, learning difficulties, peer influence, play, behavior control, adolescent identity, sexual harassment, midlife crisis, etc.

The book tackles a number of contemporary issues and their impact on human behavior, for example the virtual environment as well as technology and its different tools, like games and smart devices. It also focuses on some behavioral phenomena affecting current societies, such as sexual harassment, unemployment, marrying late, child abuse, abuse of the elderly, family violence, etc.
