Based on the direction by the President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assas, which in turn was based on the nomination by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of Prof. Dr. Adnan bin Muhammad Al-Harithi, Dean of the Institute of Manuscripts and Revival of Islamic Heritage, to visit the Austrian National Library in Vienna with the aim of opening new cooperation horizons between the Library and Saudi universities, the participating delegation in such visit was introduced to the components of the Library. It is worth mentioning that the Austrian National Library is considered the second largest national library in Europe. The delegation also was given access to the available manuscripts and documents at the Library, especially papyrus documents. The total number of such documents reached one hundred and eighty thousand documents, eighty thousand of which were written in Arabic while the rest was written in the ancient Egyptian language, Latin, etc.
The delegation held several meetings with officials of the Library in order to open cooperation prospects with respect to the investigation and dissemination of Islamic heritage and achievement of benefit from the experiences of Saudi universities, especially the Institute of Manuscripts, in this domain.
On the other hand, the Dean of the Institute of Manuscripts and Revival of Islamic Heritage appreciated the support by the MOE and UQU President for such approach as they opened new cooperation horizons with various scientific institutions especially in the domain of Islamic heritage, as stressed by the National Vision 2030.
