A ceremony launching the Irth (Heritage) Initiative at Rea Zhakhir female campus was held at the headquarters with the participation of the College of Arabic Language, the College of Business Administration, and the Community College. The event was carried out in coordination with the UQU Vice Deanship of Student Affairs for Direction, Guidance, and Community Partnership, and in partnership with the "Hajar" female section in the "Glorification of the Holy Land" project. The Irth Initiative is being performed as part of the eighth-year campaign entitled: "My University is Part of the Holy Land".
The ceremony started with a recitation of the Noble Qur'an. Next, Her Excellency the Supervisor of the female campus at Rea Zhakhir, Prof. Salwa bint Muhammad Al-Mehmadi, delivered a speech in which she welcomed the attendees and the members of the Judging Committee of the Holy Land Glorification Project. She then spoke about the virtue of the sacred lands, and how Almighty Allah made this Sacred House safe and secure, as part of the sublime status that He has bestowed upon it. The second speaker on the event's program was Dr. Insaf Bukhari, who recited a poem entitled: “Hawa (Eve) of Makkah”. This was followed by a presentation given by Dr. Amal Siddiq, in which she clarified the significance of the word 'Irth (Heritage)', the category targeted by this initiative, and the areas of knowledge encompassed by the Irth initiative. These areas were divided into the following topics:
A Historical Heritage: This part of the initiative was called, "So as Not to Forget". It was covered in a lecture entitled, "The Accustomed Security of the Quraish: Between Yesterday and Today", prepared and supervised by Professor Mona Al-Salim, an academic staff member at the Community College.
A Knowledge Heritage: This part of the initiative was called, "Let Us Seek Knowledge". It consisted of a scientific journal, entitled: (Knowledge Community), which contains a collection of articles written by a selected group of female academic members, along with the participation of some female students. The initiative also included a weblog containing information about Makkah which had been translated into several language. The weblog was designed by the students of the Marketing Department of the College of Business Administration.
A Community Heritage: This part of the initiative was called, "Renewed Art". It consisted of the participation of female students with several exhibition booths, which showed a variety of handcrafts they had produced as part of a craft business from the land of the sacred sites.
A Moral Heritage: This part of the initiative was called, "Ghidaq (Magnanimity)" and came in the form of technical production. It addressed the moral dimensions of Makkah, using computer presentations of illustrated stories for children and some computer images demonstrating the morals of the inhabitants of Makkah.
Next on the program was a lecture entitled: "The Accustomed Security of the Quraish: Between Yesterday and Today". The lecture was delivered by Prof. Mona Salim, who talked about the traditional winter and summer annual trading trips made by the Arabs, and trade in the past versus the present.
At the end of the official ceremony, a tour of the exhibition was made. The sections displayed paintings showing the trade journeys conducted in ancient times. They also included a games corner, which illustrated Makkan knowledge, a corner for craft products made by female artisans, and a hospitality corner designed by the headquarters staff and which bore the stamp of ancient culture.
In the conclusion, the committee members, college coordinators, female students, and female participants were thanked for the efforts they made in preparing and carrying out the event.
