Postgraduate Students Organize a Workshop Entitled: ‘Inclusive Globalization’

The Cultural Committee at the Department of Mass Communication, in the College of Social Sciences at Umm Al-Qura University, organized a workshop, today (Sunday), 4 Rabi` Al-Thani, 1441 A.H., entitled: "Inclusive Globalization". The workshop was presented by the postgraduate students in the specialization of public relations, under the supervision of His Excellency Dr. Faisal Al-Shimiri, an academic staff member at the department.

In the workshop, the participants addressed the topic of "Inclusive Globalization", highlighting the following three themes: The first theme included: the concept of globalization, a historical overview of the phenomenon, its features, and objectives. The second theme came under the title: "The Different Areas of Globalization: Cultural, Social, Economic, and Media-Related Areas". The third theme addressed the institutions that serve globalization, its theories, means of dissemination, and its merits and demerits.

Sami Al-Qarni was the first postgraduate student to talk, opening the workshop by discussing the definition of globalization, which was followed by a brief overview of the history of globalization presented by Saleh Abdul-Hafizh. Moreover, Suhaib bin Uthman demonstrated the key features of globalization, and Abul-Rahman Mahnashi talked about the objectives of globalization.

Next, Abdul-Aziz Al-Alawi spoke about cultural globalization, Abdul-Majeed Asairi touched upon social globalization, and Shafi Al-Dhubiani and Abdullah Al-Matrafi talked about the economic impact of globalization. This theme of the workshop was concluded by a talk addressing media globalization, which was presented by Ammar Al-Harbi.

In relation to the concluding theme, Hudhaifah Habaq highlighted the institutions that serve globalization, and Meshari Al-Matrafi discussed the three theories of globalization. Furthermore, Shadi Haneef talked about the means of dissemination, and Saad Al-Hudhali underlined the merits and demerits of globalization.

Concluding the workshop, His Excellency Dr. Faisal Al-Shamiri outlined the ways to benefit from inclusive globalization in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressing the leading role played by postgraduate students in this course. He lauded their very promising efforts that indicate future innovation in the service of their religion and homeland. Furthermore, he extended his thanks to Dr. Adnan Al-Maghamisi, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences at UQU, and Dr. Salim Urijah, the Head of the Mass Communication Department, for the praiseworthy support they extended to the Cultural Committee at the department. Such support enables the committee to provide useful programs for the benefit of the students, thereby developing and harnessing their skills, given the importance of the students' role in participating in these extra-curricular programs and activities.

It is worth mentioning that the students of the Media Globalization course, under the supervision of His Excellency Dr. Faisal Al-Shamiri, will be issuing a magazine entitled: "Inclusive Globalization", as part of the projects conducted by the students of this division.
