The College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies, represented by the Deanship for Training and Community Services, held a course entitled: "Voluntary Charitable Work and its Role in Social Development", on Monday 7, Rabi` Awwal 1441 A.H., at Al-Jifali Hall 2. The course was delivered by Dr. Maha Al-Utaibi, the Vice Dean of the College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies for Training and Community Services, and Dr. Tahani Bahwirth, at 10 a.m.
The course started with an explanation by Dr. Maha Al-Utaibi of the main elements of social development, as well as some shining examples of volunteerism. She also elaborated on the virtues of the moral practice of enjoining good and forbidding evil, and the objectives of social development. The dynamics of the course included the participation of the audience.
Next, Dr. Tahani talked about the concepts of volunteerism, development, and society. She explained the importance of developing a plan for voluntary work, and defined charitable work and its role as a social capital. As a last point, she discussed the benefits of charity work, among which the most crucial ones are: addressing negativity and indifference, and investing energies. Charity work also serves as an educational tool that contributes to diffusing peace and reassurance among people.
At the end of the course, Her Excellency the Vice Dean of the College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies for Training and Community Services honored Dr. Tahani Bahwirth, awarding her a certificate of appreciation and recognition.
