College of Public Health Participates With Hira General Hospital in the 6th Forum for Diabetes and Endocrine Diseases

The UQU College of Public Health and Health Informatics, represented by the Department of Health Education and Promotion, in collaboration with Hira General Hospital and the Diabetes Center in Makkah, participated in the 6th Forum for Diabetes and Endocrine Diseases on Wednesday and Thursday, 24-25 Safar, 1441 A.H., corresponding to 23-24 October, 2019 A.C. The forum was launched under the auspices of the Director General of Hiraa Hospital, Dr. Walid Muhammad Hussein, and the Director of the Diabetes Center, Dr, Hamid Al-Suhafi.

The forum witnessed the participation of His Excellency Dr. Salah Al-Din Muhammad Alawnah, His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Usamah Nur, Her Excellency Dr. Laila Sulaiman Al-Fikki, and Ms. Manar Saleem Al-Nadawi, in addition to 52 students from the Department of Health Education and Promotion at the College of Public Health and Health Informatics.

The participation of the college in this forum came out of its belief in the importance of the partnership with the other health sectors aiming to serve and increase community awareness, as well as providing students with the training and knowledge of the latest research development in dealing with diabetes, which was highlighted during the forum with the participation of consultants in diabetes and endocrinology from the different health sectors.

The forum included workshops and an awareness exhibition that witnessed the participation of the Department of Health Promotion and Education at the College of Public Health and Health Informatics. It covered the symptoms of high and low blood sugar, ways to lower blood sugar levels naturally, the importance of taking medications regularly, first aid methods for an unconscious diabetic patient, and diabetes foot care guidelines. The exhibition also included distribution of awareness brochures related to diabetes, and provided some healthy food appropriate for diabetes patients and symbolic gifts for the audience.

Wrapping up the event, the participants from the UQU College of Public Health and Health Informatics were honored with thanks and appreciation certificates by the director of the hospital and the director of the diabetes center for their effective efforts in making the forum a success.
