Out of the concern of His Excellency the Dean of the Joint First Year Deanship, Dr. Saad bin Sa`id Al-Ghamdi, to improve the quality of academic and professional performance among the students, the Student Advisory and Support Unit, under the supervision of His Excellency Dr. Wahib bin Dakhilullah Al-Harbi, the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs (Male Section) at Al-Abdiyyah, organized a lecture entitled "University Life Skills: How to Moderate a Seminar." The lecture was presented by Dr. Mansur Samir Al-Sa`idi on Wednesday 19 Muharram, 1441 A.H.
The lecture, which was attended by more than 50 students of the Joint First Year Deanship, had several main objectives, most importantly: to reveal the previous experiences of students at the seminars, to enable students to express their views during seminars, for students to understand the concept of seminars, for students to understand effective discussion conditions, and for students to be able to formulate thought-provoking questions. Other main objectives included the students being able to conduct meaningful dialogue, the instructor being able to motivate students, for the trainees be familiar with disruptive dialogue and its negative effects, for students to understand the key roles played by the trainer and the student during a seminar, to build positive attitudes during towards opposing views, and for students to have the practical skills to manage dialogues during seminars.
At the end of the training session, the students were divided into 6 groups, each headed by a leader, to present some problems and how to solve them using a scientific seminar which was purposeful, and how to deal with and overcome them successfully.
