Deanship of Preparatory Year Launches “Smoke-Free Preparatory” Campaign

The Unit of Programs and Student Activities at the Deanship of Preparatory Year, in collaboration with Kafa Association, organized an awareness campaign on the dangers of smoking and drugs on Al-Abidiyah campus.

 

Dr. Ahmad bin Bakr Khushaim, the Vice-Dean of Preparatory Year, accompanied by Sheikh. Ibrahim bin Ahmad Alhimdan, the Director of Kafa Association in Makkah Al-Mukarraham, and Mr. Ahmad Al-Sibiani, the Director of the Deanship, launched the awareness and educational exhibition on Monday, Safar 21, 1438H.

 

Dr. Khushaim denoted that the duration of the exhibition is 4 days during which it targets over 1,500 students of the deanship with the aim of guiding them to maintain their religion and loyalty to their nation, and get rid of the dangerous threats of smoking and drugs on their health. He also added that these events create a great opportunity for smokers to quit smoking and receive proper treatment.

 

On his part, Sheikh. Alhimdan stated, “The events are mainly focusing on correcting some concepts related to the awareness on smoking dangers, which are overlooked by the students.” And he continued, “The combustion of the cigarette produces over 4,000 chemicals; 50 of which are carcinogenic toxics.”

 

On his part, Dr. Saad bin Saeed Al-Ghamidi, the Dean of Preparatory Year, praised the contribution of Kafa Association in highlighting the dangerous effects of smoking on the family and the society, and he mentioned that the exhibition is mainly focusing on organizing awareness and educational activities on the dangers of smoking and drugs, screening documentaries on the dangers of smoking and drugs, distributing publications and giveaways to the students, as well as offering a mobile clinic to conduct checkups on the students whom are wishing to be treated, and then transfer them to the fixed clinics at the Association’s headquarters in Makkah Al-Mukarramah to receive their treatment free of charge.
