Under the patronage of Dr. Sa`d bin Sa`id Al-Ghamdi, the Dean of the Joint First Year Deanship, in the presence of Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, the UQU Vice President of Female Student Affairs, and under the auspices of Dr. Azza Muhammad Bannuna, the Vice Dean of the Medical Stream in the female section, the Joint First Year Vice Deanship for the Female Section at Al-Abdiyyah held the annual major selection forum for the academic year 1439/1440 A.H. The forum was held under the title, "My Major is the Beginning of My Progress", and aimed at raising the awareness of the first year female students with regard to selecting their future majors as well as briefing them on the medical colleges to help them follow sound principles and methodologies when selecting their majors.
In the presence of Dr. Ramia Sindi, the Vice-Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, and the Vice Dean of the Medical and Administrative Streams, the Vice Dean of Admissions and Registration, as well as the vice deans of the participating medical colleges, the forum events were initiated with a recitation of the Quran, followed by Dr. Azza Bannuna's welcome speech. She thanked the audience for attending and participating in the forum, and underlined the importance of benefiting from the forum in realizing that a bright future is not confined to choosing a certain major, as genuine excellence lies in the student's creativity in any given major that suits her skills and personal preferences. Afterwards, Dr. Afnan Salaka, the Assistant Professor of Genetics and Medical Genomics, discussed a topic entitled "My Story with My Major", in which she reported her personal experience pertaining to the selection of her current major, and the challenges she encountered.
Dr. Fatimah Al-Ghamdi, the Vice Dean of Admissions and Registration, explained the mechanism of the Deanship of Admissions and Registration regarding distributing students among the different majors after passing the First Year Joint Program, according to the available grades and places. Dr. Ramia Sindi, the Vice-Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, gave a brief overview of the establishment of the university, explaining the different departments to the female students and the capacity of each department. She welcomed the students' questions about the College of Applied Medical Sciences. The students' inquiries were duly answered and they were informed of the introductory corners organized by the female students of various departments and under the supervision of the academic staff members. The Laboratory Medicine Department Corner was under the supervision of Ms. Abrar Al-Subhi, the coordinator, the Clinical Nutrition Department Corner was under the supervision of Ms. Samah Tiba in collaboration with Ms. Sundus Fatni, the Physiotherapy Department Corner was under the supervision of Dr. Haiam Mansouri, and the Respiratory Care Department was organized and coordinated by the second and third year students.
