The Science College Physics Department of the Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Graduation Project Committee has organized a training workshop for the graduation project female students under the title “Scientific Research Skills”. The workshop took place on Tuesday, October 11th, 2016, at the Aljaphli Hall 3 at 9 am.

The workshop started with a presentation made by the Department Deputy Head, Dr. Aminah Alahmadi. The presentation involved the steps that the female students should follow to do a distinctive graduation paper, starting with choosing the topic and the supervisor through the way of refuting the topic of the research and the significance of tackling it as well as linking it to the societal service.

The workshop featured several orientation sessions presented by the Department’s academic staff members to have the female students gain and familiarize with the necessary skills of the scientific research. Among these skills are the steps of doing an excellent research project, its conditions and procedures required to submit it; and how to use the Excel in calculations and the graphical representation for the results and its importance. Also, they touched upon the basics of using the Mat Lab program how it is used for the graphical representation as well as for the computational and theoretical physics and the importance of its tools for both of them. They similarly spoke about the way of documenting the references using the Endnote program and linking it to the research and its importance, as well as internet-based search skills and how to benefit from the databases at the University’s website.

Drawing the workshop to a close, the Department announced the organizing of a series of complementary and elaborate workshops during the first semester.
