Mass Communication students produced and broadcasted a radio program as their first hands-on experience in live broadcasting at Jeddah radio station during their academic visit to the radio building on Sunday, 26 Safar, 1440 A.H. Their visit was led by Dr. Salim Urijah, the Head of the Mass Communication Department; Dr. Wajdi Hilmi, the Associate Professor of Mass Communication, TV director, and visit supervisor; and Dr. Muhammad Gharib, Professor of Mass Communication.
This experiential activity was conducted as training for the students in presenting radio programs, with the aim of providing them with the required communication skills and practical expertise in this field. The visit came within the framework of close cooperation between the College of Social Sciences and the Mass Communication institutions.
The students were received by the Radio's General Manager, Mashal bin Awad Al-Thubaiti, Deputy Director of Programs, Sultan Al-Ruwaqi, and Deputy Director of Production, Bandar bin Ahmad Al-Asiri. The students listened to a detailed explanation on how to produce and broadcast radio programs, as a model of how government-run radios does their work. They also visited the studios of Nidaa Al-Islam Radio to learn the steps taken in preparing and carrying out program plans.
On his part, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Dr. Adnan bin Nuri Al-Harbi, expressed his happiness for the participation of the Mass Communication students in preparing and presenting radio programs, which gives them the best opportunity to practice the profession of broadcasting and muster up enough confidence to stand before the microphone and face the audience. He confirmed that the College shall continue to support such visits to keep improving and refining the students' skills through practical broadcasting experience. He added that these educational visits need to be intensified and supported by the College Deanship.
The Head of the Mass Communication Department, Dr. Salim Urijah, admired the excellence demonstrated by the students of the Radio and TV Division and their efficiency in interacting with the radio station team. He said that this efficiency came about through constant training in the radio and TV studio at the Department. He then expressed his thanks to the General Manager of Jeddah Radio for receiving the students and giving them a chance to train in the radio studios.
At the end of the visit, Prof. Mashal bin Awad Al-Thubaiti commended UQU Mass Communication students for their academic distinction and their keenness to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of broadcasting. Finally, he added that the Mass Communication students would be offered the chance to train with Jeddah Radio and Nidaa Al-Islam Radio.
