The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for the Haj and Umrah Institute at the Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Researches and Media Affairs Department, follows the photocopying and documenting of the needs of the scientific studies and researches conducted by all the Institute departments at the current Haj season (1437). The Head of the Department and researcher, Dr. Osman ibn Bakr Qazaz remarked that the Department offers the journalistic and photographic documentation program in video and photography at every Haj season. He also pointed out that he keeps an on all the events and developments surrounding the central area, the Holy Sites and Makkah and Madinah borders, and visually document them  by the researcher assistants and participating photographers. He further noted that every Haj season the Institute shoots within and outside the Sacred Mosque, open spaces and areas surrounding the Holy Sites as well as Madinah by the photography teams. This aims at documenting situation before and during performing the Haj rites. Also, the Institute provides photographers for supporting the studies and researches it conducts.   

Still, Dr. Osman pointed out that the Program aims at shooting and documenting what the scientific studies and researches need  at the Haj season, and following up all the events and developments  surrounding the central area, the Holy Sites and Makkah and Madinah borders, and visually document them. It is also meant for creating fully-fledged archive of photographs which the Institute needs and relevant entities. He further highlighted a number of the topics which come into focus during the shooting, such as accidents: stampede, stumbling and sliding and vehicle crash and breakdown; crowd such as densely-crowded areas,  narrow places and vehicles making their way through the pedestrian ;  obstructing : blockades, waste, buildings, beggars, sitting on the streets and street vendors, among other topics.

In a similar fashion, Dr Osman noted that all the photography teams exist thought the Haj season at the Sacred Mosque and around. There are also mobile teams divided into several groups for covering Makkah and the Holy Sites according to a specific timetable and in line with the set objectives.   Not only that, but there is also a team for aerial shooting. The Department conducts a number of flights at different time in coordination with the relevant entities. He further said that, once the photographers finish shooting, they all head to the Institute to empty their data in the Computer at the employee in charge, each in their file on a basis daily. They all gather a big number of high quality materials needed in order to serve all the researches, studies and programs conducted by the Institute through its departments and researches.
