Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assas, President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), honored the Institute of Manuscripts and Revival of Islamic Heritage with a visit on Wednesday, 18th Rabie I 1439H. During the visit, Dr. Assas participated in the First Seminar on Early Qur’an Manuscripts.
Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Yaser Ismael Abdussalam gave a presentation on the Project of Early Hijazi Calligraphy Study. This was through the study of the early Qur’anic manuscripts at international libraries and document houses. He demonstrated that such study proposed a group of concrete and irrefutable evidence of the origin and the first homeland of the Arabic calligraphy, i.e. Hijaz. This was by focusing on the study of the calligraphy in which the early Qur’anic manuscripts were copied. Then, such study was linked and compared to the early inscriptions, manuscripts and papyrus.
