His Excellency, Dr. Majid Ali, faculty member at the College of Clinical Pharmacy, has received a prize for the second best clinical research amongst several researches participating in the 2nd Global Pharmacy and Healthcare Services Research Symposium whose events took place in Dubai, Emirates on 2nd and 3rd November 2017. This came as part of the distinguished and continues participation of the College of Pharmacy in the field of scientific research.
The symposium aimed to support clinical research and development in order to develop the skills of specialists in the field of healthcare on an international level, as well as improve the quality of healthcare offered to patients.
Dr. Majid's research was titled "What After Metformin? Factors affecting prescribing of antidiabetic drugs". It included a survey of a group of doctors of glands from Makka and Jeddah. The survey aimed to explore the trends of doctors in terms of prescribing drugs for the treatment of diabetes and the factors affecting the doctors' choice of this kind of treatment. Through the research, it was concluded that the principle of prescribing these medicines by doctors for patients is based on the factors deemed proper for the patient's condition.
Despite the existence of modern clinical researches, which in turn have proved the efficiency of some drugs likely to be used to treat diabetes, doctors still need to use decision-making tools and not fear prescribing such recently-discovered medicines that could have an effective and safe role in treating diabetes.
The participation of the college is part of the distinguished efforts and support the college receives from the President of Umm al-Qura University, His Excellency, Dr. Bakri bin Matouk Assass, to help the university progress in the field of scientific research.
