On Sunday morning, 21 Muharram 1443 A.H., the College of Nursing at Umm Al-Qura University held an introductory meeting at King Abdulaziz Historical Hall for second-year students. The meeting was attended by the Dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Fatimah Al-Sulami, the vice deans of the college, and the academic and administrative staff.
At the beginning of the meeting, the dean of the college welcomed the new students and congratulated them on their admission to the college, lauding the role of the nursing staff in supporting the health sector, especially in light of the attention received from the Committee of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (may Allah safeguard him) for nursing.
Dr. Fatimah Al-Sulami emphasized that the college continues to develop its academic programs, with the lauded support of the UQU President, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, and the follow-up of the UQU Vice President for Educational Affairs, Amer Al-Zaidi, to achieve progress in the educational process. The dean of the college also advised students to strive in their educational journey, increase their knowledge, and harness the needed skills for nursing.
This was followed by a speech by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Nawal bint Jameel Abdul-Ghani, who talked about the organizational structure of the vice presidency, which includes the Postgraduate Unit, Educational Affairs Unit, Clinical Training and Internship Unit, and the Laboratories Unit. She reviewed the study plan for the Bachelor of Nursing program, the services it provides, and the academic office for students to overcome any difficulties they face in educational affairs. She also talked about academic advising and the role of the academic adviser in supporting the student and helping them adapt to the university environment. She concluded her speech by introducing the student council, its structure, and its working mechanism in the College of Nursing.
After that, the Vice Dean for Development and Quality at the College of Nursing, Dr. Sanaa bint Awwad Al-Sulami, talked about the Vice Deanship for Development and Quality, being one of the important vice deanships in the college. This vice deanship works to improve the quality of education in the nursing program, upgrade its performance and raise its outputs to be in line with the requirements of the labor market. It is the right of the student to obtain a distinguished education, and the society has the right to be cared for by a national cadre of male and female nurses who possess the knowledge, skills and competence that qualifies them to provide health care.
Her Excellency touched on the Vice Deanship for Development's organizational structure, as it includes the Scientific Research Unit, the Volunteering Unit, and the Graduates Unit, explaining the importance of these units in raising the level of the college's performance and its tasks to achieve the vision and mission of the college and the university. This is in addition to the active role of the students in obtaining academic accreditation for the college by: for example, working on the tasks assigned to them, participating in volunteer work through which community service is carried out and by which the students' personality is refined, becoming able to acquire life and professional skills, activating communication with the academic advisor, and evaluating courses, faculty members and program quality by filling out evaluation questionnaires.
This was followed by a speech by the Vice Dean of the College of Nursing for the male section, Dr. Muhammad bin Salih Al-Shamimri, in which he talked about the role of nursing as a humanitarian profession and its impact on the lives of individuals and society.
His Excellency also spoke about the activities held at the College of Nursing, especially the Student Club, explaining its role in shaping the students’ personality and announcing the nomination process for this year.
